Digital Learning Site
Clever
Grades K-2 can sign in with their Clever Badge.
Apps and links are bookmarked in Clever for easy access. Students can access our Digital Learning Site, Library Catalog, Mackinvia, Keyboarding without Tears, Wixie, and more. The apps automatically sign your child in for even easier access.
Keyboarding without Tears
Keyboarding without Tears is developmentally appropriate and develops muscle memory and fine motor skills to develop keyboarding skills. So yes, even kindergarten students are enjoying this program and are starting with mouse practice while learning letter formation. If your student has a touch screen, please encourage them to practice their mouse skills with this program instead of touching the screen.
The recommended time is 10 minutes a day or 30 minutes a week. Grade 3-5 students receive 10-15 minutes each week on their Guidance class days. They may get some random practice during our media time, but it is recommended students continue to work on this from home. The nice part is that every new activity starts with video directions, so students can be independent.

Free Digital Reading
MackinVia
For direct access go to: https://clever.com/in/ankenyschools or https://ankeny.mackinvia.com. The username is their school ID number (found in Infinite Campus and part of email address), and the password is their usual login of 6 digit birthday and uppercase initials of first, middle, last name. If there is no middle name, use X. Please note, the username is ID only, not the entire email address.
Students can also sign in with their Heartland AEA user information, but this will not allow them to check out books to a backpack. It is more of a preview. To do this, go to https://www.mackinvia.com. SKIP the "School/Library Name" box and just type the 0261...Heartland AEA user information.
Heartland AEA11 Databases
The following ebook and audiobook databases and more can be found at the AEA's Site and on our Ankeny Digital Learning Page. Did you know that if you sign into MackinVia, there is also a "databases" button located within MackinVia that signs you into all of these as well?
- Bookflix - pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction ebooks
- Pebblego - designed for k-3 students and contains nonfiction articles and interactive activities
- Pebblego Next - is the same as Pebblego, but designed for grades 3-5
- Trueflix - Scholastic's "True Books" series as ebooks paired with video content
- Tales2Go - Best accessed in "Databases" within MackinVia. It saves your bookmarks this way. This database contains audio performances of many popular books.
- MackinVia - is an ebook/audiobook library. Sign in with unique virtual backpack or our Heartland username and password (see above).
*Talk to a teacher to find out your school's assigned username and password.
Chromebook Tips
Don't forget these important tips!
- Don't forget to restart your machine at least once a week.
- If you see a little number next to the time/clock on your Chromebook shelf, there is mostly likely an update needed. Click the number and click "restart to update."
- Memorize your ID number (part of your email and located in Infinite Campus). This number is used for lots of things in our district until you leave or graduate.
- Know your birthday and initials.
- Bring a charged Chromebook to school every day.
- You will always need your Chromebook on Media Class day.
- See below for some trackpad gestures specific to Chromebook!
