Early Release - Parent/Teacher Conferences
Early Release conferences are next week. Dyer students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th. Please be sure to note these important schedule changes. (There will be no check-outs after 11:45 AM, and no lunch visitors due to schedule changes.)
The purpose of a parent-teacher conference is to discuss student achievement and progress. Each parent-teacher conference will last for a period of twenty minutes, and both parents are urged to attend. Please be prompt as these conferences are scheduled consecutively. If a situation arises and you are unable to attend your scheduled conference, please notify the teacher so the conference can be rescheduled.
Online conference scheduling is now closed. Please contact your child’s teacher directly to sign up for a conference time if you have not scheduled one yet.
We look forward to seeing you next week.
Book Character Day Returns - 10/31!
Dyer Elementary is excited to announce the return of Book Character Dress Up Day on Wednesday, October 31. On that day, each student is invited to come to school dressed up as a character from a favorite book. Since this is a literacy celebration, the characters should come from a story that was a book first.
Please do not feel like you need to purchase a costume. A simple homemade costume is great!
Your child should bring a copy of the book the character appears in or a picture of the front cover of the book.
Each teacher will select one student to be interviewed as their character by Mrs. Langford & Mr. DiFilippo. In addition, each class will vote for their "Favorite Character" and "Most Original/Creative Character" (think creative use of materials.) That makes for a total of 3 prize winners per class, those students will get to choose a book from the Bookmobile!
Birthday Wishes in Big Lights!
We will continue our PAWS program school-wide. The goal of this program is to not only notice positive behavior, but also to reward that behavior. You can help support the funding of this program, and wish your child a happy birthday on our school marquee at the same time. It's a win-win! For a $5 contribution, a Happy Birthday message along with your child's first name and last initial will be displayed on our marquee for three days during the week of your child's birthday. Summer birthday? Not a problem, We will display summer birthday messages during the last week of school and during their birthday week. NOTE: Your child's name will be displayed on their birth date as well as the day immediately before and after. Orders can be placed via Mypaymentsplus.com under the School Events tab. Please note, requests will be processed the next business day.

Volunteering for this event is always lots of fun. Even better, we will give all volunteers a 10% discount on their purchases. If you cannot donate your time, we could always use donations of dum-dums lollipops.
Book Fair Is Here!
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love
for reading:
· Set the example. Let children see you read.
· Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep up
with changing tastes and reading skills.
· Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
