PTA Meeting - Date Correction - The February PTA meeting will be on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:30 p.m. in the media center.
Family Bingo Night
This is a "family event" - children must be accompanied by their parents.
If you are interested in helping during the event,(collecting used Bingo boards every couple rounds, manning the prize table, cleaning up after the event etc...)please email Moira Lusky at luskymoira@yahoo.com.
Helping Your Child: Test Preparation
AIR Testing Dates Grades 3-5
Mark your calendar for the following dates:
Please avoid making appointments for students during the following dates to avoid missing testing. Tests are scheduled to be taken in the morning on each testing date. Some exceptions may occur.
Spring AIR Testing:
ELA Grades 3-5: April 5th and 6th
Math Grades 3-5: May 2nd and 3rd
Social Studies Grade 4: May 4th
Science Grade 5: May 4th
Kindergarten Registration Information
Do you know anyone who will be starting Kindergarten next year (2017-2018 school year)? Here are the registration dates:
Whitney - Friday, March 17, 2017
Registration will be held from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm at the administration building. If a parent can't make their scheduled day, they can come on any other day that week. They can also schedule an appointment for registration after that week.
Parents need to complete the online registration before their registration date. Registration form for the 2017/2018 school year will be online sometime in February.
Please note the updated Board Policy for Kindergarten Entrance Requirements which states that students must be five no later than August 1 to attend kindergarten.
Attention Parents of 5th Graders!
There will be an informational meeting regarding the end of the year 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony and the Albion Woods Party. The meeting will be on Thursday, February 23rd at 5:30 p.m. in the Whitney Media Center. An outline of these activities will be shared and there will be an opportunity for parents to sign up to volunteer to help coordinate these events. Hope to see you there.
Meeting at SMS for parents of 5th graders.
There will be a meeting held on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6:00 in the Strongsville Middle School auditorium for parents of 5th grade students whose children will be attending SMS in the fall. This will be a general meeting held by administrators and counselors to discuss expectations when your child enters middle school next year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give SMS Principal, Steve Deitrick, a call at 440.572.7085 or send him an email to sdeitrick@scsmustangs.org.
Kiwanis "Read Around The World" Event
READ AROUND THE WORLD SATURDAY, FEB.25, 2017 KIWANIS CLUB OF STRONGSVILLE The KIWANIS CLUB OF STRONGSVILLE is sponsoring its annual "READ AROUND THE WORLD" program on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM at the Strongsville Community Library. Members of Kiwanis believe that the sooner a child gets interested in reading, the better the chance they have for success in school. The program and its activities are intended for PRE-SCHOOL and K – 3rd graders. There is NO ADMISSION CHARGE for children and their accompanying adult (parent, grandparent, etc.). Cookies and beverage will be available at NO CHARGE. Activities include: *Children will be free to “browse” and “check out” our huge inventory of children’s books *Students from St. Joe's & John's Elementary, Strongsville Middle School, and Strongsville High School will be available to read to your child from a book the child selects from our inventory of children's books.
*Mr. Protiva, librarian in the children’s section, will be reading a couple brief children’s stories. He is outstanding!
*St. Joe’s & John’s students will be performing short skits based on children’s stories. *Strongsville Middle School students will be “face painting” throughout the morning *Appearances of several characters from children’s literature in costumes.
*Finally, each child can pick out his/her favorite new book to TAKE HOME!!!
Again, all of the above is FREE!!! By the way, there will be applications for any adults who wish to become a member of our Kiwanis Club of Strongsville.
