CMS Teacher Shout Out

I want to publicly commend our teachers for an amazing beginning of the year! There are several aspects that have been challenges that are out of our control. What we can control - personal connections, positive attitudes & environments, engaging instructional strategies - have been effectively implemented throughout the week. They have navigated students through how to use TEAMS, TEAMS difficulties, spent break time working individually with students to ensure that this week was the best that we could make it. I am so proud of their effort, time, grace this week!

CMS URL possible schedule modifications

As I stated earlier this week, I have heard many of your voices about the challenges around the current middle school schedule. I have been in conversation with district leaders about my own perceptions of our schedule, its challenges for our students' and staff's well being and my ideas of possible modifications.

I lived the life of a student on Wednesday for four periods so I have experienced the virtual environment. I have two middle school students of my own as well as too many years to state in the middle school setting which I believe has given me a good sense of the mental capacity and development of our students.

Early next week, I will be messaging two options that I am exploring as modifications to our schedule during URL. A Microsoft FORMS link will be included for you to provide constructive feedback around the options. It is not a vote but an opportunity for feedback. There are several factors beyond opinion that determine this type of decision including how to migrate URL with the F2F phase in matrix. I realize that either choice will not make everyone happy. But, I also realize that my top priority is providing BALANCE to our students and staff. I believe we can do that.

I will take your feedback along with staff feedback to make a decision that will serve our community best. The option that is chosen will be implemented on August 31.

The district is aware that Infinite Campus is experiencing challenges and glitches with transferring teacher recorded attendance to IC. If you receive an absence notification and your student was present for instruction, simply send the appropriate teacher with the student name, date of attendance error, and period.

Student Information is working diligently to resolve this issue. Any correction to an attendance error requires 24 hours to be reflecting in IC.

Excused absence request

Notes for excused absences should be sent to

FCS Tech Hotline

FCS is very aware of the challenges surrounding the tech hotline. Beginning on Monday, the IT department will be increasing their capacity to accept calls as well as increasing their personnel to answer calls, and check voicemails. They hope to eliminate a full mailbox at any time.

Two numbers for the tech hotline are 470.254.2300 and 470.254.4357.

Homeroom on Tuesday, August 25

Homeroom will begin on Tuesday, August 25. Students will meet with their 4th period teacher one day each week. During this time, we will be implementing our Student Success Skills curriculum that centers around strategies to promote social & emotional wellness.

Students will log into their Flex period team at 1:15 on Tuesday.

TEAMS issues

The last few days have been challenging with TEAMS for many of us. Intermittent issues were occurring across North America.

A good practice is for students to shut their device down completely each night and restart each morning. This often eliminates glitches. Additionally, check for TEAMS updates within the platform. If you hover over your personal icon, there is an option "Check for Updates."

Microsoft TEAMS live event - August 27

We will be hosting a TEAMS live event on Thursday, August 27 @ 7pm. This is an opportunity to ask questions, in a positive forum, about CMS, URL, middle school or other questions. The administrative team will be available to answer grade level specific questions. Our counselors will be available to provide social & emotional strategies as well as answer questions.

We will send the link the event on Wednesday via Blackboard as well as post on our website. We hope to "see" you there!

AVID tutors needed

We are actively recruiting adult (18 years old +) AVID tutors for the 20-21 school year as the AVID program is growing into 8th grade this year. AVID is a 7th and 8th grade college and career readiness connections class. You DO NOT need to be an expert in 7th or 8th grade curriculum. A willingness to learn the AVID tutorial process and a genuine desire to help students succeed academically and socially is all that is required. The bonds built between tutors and students are so meaningful and rewarding for all! Our current tutors can certainly attest to what a wonderful experience they had last year.

This is a paid position of $10/hr and training is provided. There is a small fee for fingerprinting and badging. Tutorials will take place virtually via Microsoft Teams every Tuesday and Thursday during 1st (9-9:45 am), 3rd ( 11-11:45 am), 6th (1:30-2:15 pm), and 7th (2:30-3:15 pm) periods. This is a year long commitment and you have the flexibility to commit to as many class periods as you would like. You do not need to own the Microsoft Office suite to be an eligible tutor. Tutorials will not begin until September for 8th grade and October for 7th grade. If you are interested, please contact Maggie Nelms at Thank you!

Textbook pick up for 7th & 8th grade

Textbook pickup will occur on the following dates from 9 - 12pm & 1-4pm:

August 24 & 25 - 7th grade

2020 PTA Membership

HELLO From the PTA!

It's time to purchase your PTA membership, contribute to the Support Our Husky Pack annual fundraiser, and confirm your family information. This will be the only fundraiser we have, whether we are virtual or back in the building! Help us reach our two goals of 600 members and $20,000 this year!

What does Support Our Husky Pack mean? The Husky Pack is the PTA’s direct way to contribute to Crabapple Middle School. There are no "Room Parents" to raise money during the year. Husky Pack dollars will provide additional materials for teachers and labs, supplies for learning spaces, student and staff mental wellness, digital content for students in every grade, and more creative opportunities to enhance learning. Approximately $40 is spent on each student every year to enrich learning through the Husky Pack. And all donations are tax deductible.

We are doing everything online this year to make things easy! You will need to RE-ACTIVATE your Membership Toolkit Account, then you can join the PTA, make contributions to support our Husky Pack, confirm your family information, and access the school directory.

Just follow these easy steps:

· Go to <>

· Click on the Register/Login button

· Enter your email and password information, or create a new account if you don't have one already

· Confirm your student and family information and directory preferences
