-an American legal case in 1925

-John Scopes did not know whether he actually taught human evolution or not
-he incriminated himself solely so the case could have a defendant
-he was fined for $100 which is about $1350 today
-he violated Tennessee's Butler Act
-there were 2 internationally recognized attorneys on the case
