The Horseshoe Review
The Copeland PTO Newsletter - March 19, 2020
President’s Corner By Amanda Ball
I hope everyone had a fantastic Spring Break and you were able to do some fun and exciting activities.
Now for the big question. Parents, how was the first week of homeschool? Hopefully everyone is surviving! We probably all appreciate our teachers more, if that was even possible. I always knew we had some amazing teachers at Copeland and they have really stepped up their game switching gears so quickly and moving lessons online and making sure parents had what we needed to keep our kids on track with their lessons. Thank you, teachers, for going the extra mile and being patient as we all navigate this uncharted territory.
There have been some fantastic resources being shared via face book, twitter & email. We have compiled several of these resources on our website, CopelandPTO.org , so they can be found quickly from a central location. They include CFISD district resources, free educational sites and links to free printable worksheets, virtual tours, coding and so much more.
I’m sad we had to cancel our Community Movie Night & Silent Auction, but we will revisit once school starts back up to see if it can be rescheduled. Chick-Fil-A spirit nights have been cancelled. Willie’s Ice House offers curbside pick-up and if you mention you are from Copeland when you phone in your order, they will honor the percentage we get.
I wish you the best of luck with your homeschool endeavors and I’m hoping we can get back to our normal school routine on April 13th. As always, if you have questions/concerns/ideas regarding PTO, please feel free to contact me at copelandptopresident@gmail.com.

The Garden by Tracy Reynolds
The garden is still growing. On the last garden day, we thankfully planted our spring crops of potatoes, tomatoes, and bell peppers. Our garden has an awesome bluebonnet section, check it out! The lettuce has grown and so has the cabbage.
If you are spring cleaning your yards and flower beds and have pine needles bring them bagged to the garden and put them in the compost bin. We recycle the pine needles as mulch to help keep the weeds down. The garden should have a great harvest when we return to school.
If you and your family need some fresh air we can always use help weeding and taking care of our garden while school is closed. Please email me if you want to help at tracy.b.reynolds@gmail.com
Yearbooks are still on. We need your pics to finish up the pages and get it printed ASAP!

Does the company you, or your spouse, work for match donations or pay for hours you volunteer at Copeland Elem? These companies do: Shell, BP & Microsoft. If you don’t know if your company does, please ask your HR Dept.
Log your Volunteer Hours to get more money for our school!
Working for our kids as a volunteer is both rewarding and important. Please log your volunteer hours in our Raptor Portal. The more volunteer hours we log the more money we get from the state.
CFISD has provided an online program to make it easier on volunteers to log and track their
volunteer hours. This program is called Raptor, which is part of the V-Soft security software
that helps keep our schools safe.
Copeland does not have logbooks in the front office to record your hours. So, in order to
log your hours, you will need to establish a raptor account. This is quite easy and will allow
you to log your hours at home.
The steps to register online are as follows:
1. Go to https://www.cfisd.net/en/community-involvement/community-engagement/volunteer/# or click on the "New to Raptor" button below.
2. Complete this form in its entirety and submit (you must have an email address to do this)
3. You will receive an email from support@raptorware.com with your account information and password.
4. Once you receive the email use the button below to log in to your account.
5. Add this website to your favorites (this is where you will log hours)
6. Log in with email and password
7. Select campus
8. Select the tabs you will need
This program will be used to determine volunteer of the month and reporting our total volunteer hours to the district, enabling them to apply for various grants and programs.
