Care Bag for the Homeless
This year the first graders are doing something a little different for our community service project. We are going to be making care bags for the homeless in our area. My husband, who is a Sergeant with the Monroe Police Department, will be delivering the bags for us.
Our goal is to collect enough money to make at least one bag for each child. Each bag will contain a small blanket, beanie cap, socks, toilet paper, washcloth, germ-x, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap, crackers, fruit, can meat, gum, and anything extra that we can fit in the bag. Each student will also include a personal Christmas card for the person. This will be an awesome way to spread Christmas Cheer for those who are less fortunate.
I will be tying this project into our reading unit, “The Littlest Elf”, which we will be working on when we return from break. On Friday, Dec. 2, we will be wearing Elf hats and packing the bags. We will set up the items like an assembly line and let each student pack a bag. This way the students will feel like they have been a part of this project.
I am asking that each family make monetary donation toward the project. If every person participates, each bag should cost @$15 each. You can donate as much as you feel led, I will make sure every penny is used toward the bags. The more we collect, the more we can give. Please turn in any donations by Wednesday, Nov. 30. This will give me time to get everything we need for the bags.
Once I have collected all the money and items, I will send a picture of what each bag contains.
If you have any questions, please email me.
Thank you,
Mrs. Crowson and Mrs. Lyons
