Disney Celebration Digest 2022-23
November 7, 2022
Notes from Dr. Elliott
Dear Disney Families,
Can you believe it is almost Thanksgiving Break? Time flies when we are learning and having fun! The last couple of weeks, we have enjoyed another Rally and our first Neighborhood Block Party. Thank you Jen Gifford and her merry party of parent volunteers in making our first Block Party a fun event for all.
As we begin the holiday season of thankfulness, I wanted to take the time to say thank you for your support, your patience, your feedback, your positivity and your willingness to be "curious, not judgmental" in our time here at Disney. This phrase has become a very big part of my focus here at Disney. It becomes such an important phrase when we are trying to understand and work in partnership with others. For example, behavior is communication. Instead of judging a child's action/reaction to a moment, we as adults and practice the act of curiosity. We can take the time to try to learn the reason behind the behavior and try to help the child through it. In addition, a child can also learn this skill. Instead of saying, "this is too hard" or "I don't think they like me", they might take a moment to ask questions. They too can learn this skill with the help of an adult. I encourage you to take the time to "be curious" alongside your child. It is an amazing conversation!
