A Message from Ms. Valentine, Principal
Greetings, Students, Staff, and Families,
During the week of December 10, 2023, we continue to test select students for required MCAP/English 10, MCAP/Algebra 1, Make-up MISA, and Government assessments. Students must take these examinations to meet their Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) graduation requirements.
Testing Dates
- Mon, Dec 11 - MCAP/ELA 10
- Tues, Dec 12 - MCAP/Algebra 1
- Wed, Dec 13 - MISA and GOV make-ups
- Thurs, Dec 14 - MISA and GOV make-ups
- Fri, Dec 15 - MISA and GOV make-ups
Testing Locations and Passes
All students may check the Springbrook High School Canvas page to learn their testing locations. Additionally, students will receive a testing pass on Mon, Dec 11, communicating their testing date, timeframe, and location. Chromebooks
All test-takers must use their MCPS Chromebooks for assessments; please remind students to charge their devices the evening before the testing day.
Advisory for Signature Program and Pathway Registration for School Year 2024-2025
In preparation for 2024-2025 course registration, Springbrook will hold a "special advisory" period on Wed, Dec 13, 2023.
- Students in grades 11 and 12 will participate in a tailored experience that will meet the needs of upper grade level students.
- Using a digital platform, students in grades 9 and 10 will have a unique opportunity to hear from their peers about their experiences in the following programs:
- International Baccalaureate
- Academy of Information Technology (AOIT)
- Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
- College and Career Readiness Programs, (Apprenticeship, Entrepreneurship, Internship, and Dual Enrollment)
- Justice, Law, and Society (JLS)
- Hospitality Management
- Music and Fine Arts
- Teachers Academy of Maryland (TAM)
Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program Implementation
The SOS Prevention Program will be presented to students in English and English Language Development (ELD) classes by counselors during Dec 14 - 22, 2023.

ACES is Accepting Applications for Grade 10 Students
Mr. Pineda, our wonderful ACES Coach, is currently leading grade 11 ACES students through the college process with planned in-person career coaching and open help sessions.
Grade 10 students are encouraged to apply to the ACES Program! ACES stands for “Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success,” a countywide partnership with MCPS, Montgomery College, and The Universities at Shady Grove. Students admitted to the program receive the following:
- 1-on-1 coaching and
- a personalized plan leading to a seamless educational pathway from high school to college completion.
ACES also prepares 11th-grade and 12th-grade students for life after high school, with targeted support for students who have been historically underrepresented in the higher education system.

Ms. Leslie Lopez Our Own Artist-in-Residence
Ms. Leslye Lopez is a compositional assistant in the English Department at Springbrook High School. She holds an M.A. in English and Creative Writing. We are thrilled to share that Ms. Lopez has publisher her debuted novel, The Bookstore Adventure: A Nya Sky Story.

Springbrook's Media Center Begins Recommending a BOTW
This week's BOTW is Buried Beneath the Baobab Tree. This young adult social novel is written by Nigerian author, Adaobi Tricia. Nwaubani tells a timely story of one girl who was taken from her home in Nigeria and her harrowing fight for survival.

Scout Calderon, Emily Seidel, and Ren Amundsen have been chosen for the Maryland All State Senior Chorus.

Scout will sing with the Maryland All State Senior - Mixed Chorus.
Emily Seidel
Emily will sing with the Maryland All State - Treble Chorus.
Ren Amundsen
Ren is a Maryland All State Senior Chorus, alternate.
Last Chance to Take Senior Photos
The photographer will return Thurs, Dec 14 from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
The 2024 Spring course catalog for Dual Enrollment with JUMPSTART is open for review only.
- Course requests will open the first week of November, so it is important to APPLY NOW if you have not already done so.
- Approved college classes taken through Dual Enrollment with Montgomery College are cost FREE for MCPS students this school year.
- There are options for students to take college classes at Springbrook, online, or on any of the three MC campuses.
- Please contact Mrs. Campbell for more details and to see if the Jumpstart program under Dual Enrollment is a good fit.
