Leader in Me and Franklin Covey Visiting Seven Hills on October 31:
Recognizing our greatness, Mrs. Blackburn has shared different parts of this work with other Leader in Me schools at the Leader in Me Global Summit for two years. Last summer, Mrs. Tindel joined her in presenting how goal setting is motivating students and teachers. These presentations, along with the work seen at the Lighthouse Review last year definitely caught the eye of the Leader in Me! We are so proud of Seven Hills!
The result of this visit has the potential to be used in future Leader in Me publications and professional learning materials. It is an honor and privilege to have been selected for this opportunity. We know that our teachers and school will SHINE next week...and beyond!
Parents, please know that parents would give consent in advance for any students to be videoed and/or interviewed as part of this visit.

Family Leadership Night is Next Week!
Red Ribbon Week is Next Week:
RRW Facts:
What is Red Ribbon Week?
- Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign. Today, millions of people celebrate.
How did Red Ribbon Week start?
- Red Ribbon Week started after the death of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico. After his death, people wanted to honor his sacrifice. Local celebrations began in California – where Camarena grew up – in 1985, and in 1988 the National Family Partnership started the first National Red Ribbon Week.
Why the red ribbons?
- As a tribute to Camarena during the initial local celebrations, high school friend Henry Lozano and Congressman Duncan Hunter, created “Camarena Clubs” and the wearing of a red ribbon to show their oppositions to drugs.
When is Red Ribbon Week celebrated?
- Red Ribbon Week is celebrated October 23-31 of every year.
Costumes do not have to be elaborate...Unicorn headbands, sunglasses and pink clothes turned these Leaders into Thelma the Unicorn last year!
Paper hats and colorful t-shirts was all it took to turn these teachers into crayon characters from their favorite book!
With a little imagination any character is possible!
Book Character Parade is Friday, November 1:
- no masks
- no weapons (even toy)
- students must carry the book during the parade or a picture of the book cover

Attendance
When parents make school attendance a priority, they help their child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior and have a better chance of graduating from high school.
When students are absent for fewer days, their grades and reading skills often improve—even among those students who are struggling in school. Students who attend school regularly also feel more connected to their community, develop important social skills and friendships, and are significantly more likely to graduate from high school, setting them up for a strong future.
When kids are absent for an average of just two days of school per month—even when the absences are excused– it can have a negative impact. These absences can affect kids as early as Kindergarten.
For example, young elementary school students who miss an average of just two school days per month often have difficulty keeping up with their peers academically and tend to fall behind in reading. But when students are able to read on grade level by the end of third grade, which is when kids transition from learning to read to reading to learn, they are three to four times more likely to graduate high school and attend college, post-graduate, or professional development classes than their peers who struggle with reading.

- Our school day begins promptly at 7:40 a.m. Students are expected to be present in their classrooms and ready to begin “Habit Huddle” when the 7:40 tardy bell rings. Any student who is not in their classroom, or arrives after the tardy bell, will be counted tardy. Please encourage your child to be proactive and arrive at school on time.

Any visitor without a badge will be redirected to the front office. All new guests will need to scan their ID the first time they visit this year. We appreciate your patience and understanding with this safety measure.
- Please contact the school office if your child will be absent from school. This helps us verify our overall attendance for the day and properly account for all students. When your child returns to school after an absence, please be sure to send a note explaining the reason for the absence.
