A Reading From The Gospel for Sunday, May 8, 2020
May 8, 2020 ~ A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.
Jesus said to his disciples, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?"
Jesus said to him, " I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.
Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father."
The Gospel of the Lord.

How are you Feeling?
Hi Parents,
How are you? Usually the response I get from that question is “I’m fine”.
This week for Mental Health Week, I asked our OLPH Staff to deepen their response to that question and reflect on emotions they’ve been having. Through a connection moment, we shared on our own emotions and we all listened with unconditional acceptance and no rush to “fix” or offer a solution. Above is a picture of a sample of what was shared!
Here is what we learned: Every single emotion shared was experienced by another. As human beings, we may feel alone and think we must be the only one experiencing this emotion. But through this experience, we learned we are not!
Parents, please check in with yourselves and your children. Deepen the conversation past “just fine”. You’d be surprised what you may learn.
Please know that you are not alone in your emotions. If you are overwhelmed and don’t know where to start with a conversation like this, please reach out to me at simone.moniz@eics.ab.ca
Warmest regards,

I am here for You!
Hi Parents!
How are you doing? I hope this finds you well. In light of this online schooling and our children being online more than ever, I wanted to take a moment and share some helpful reminders about our students' online presence. Our EICS website has some important reminders for all our parents:
https://www.eics.ab.ca/parents-and-students/parenting-in-the-digital-age
I don't want to promote protecting our children by banning them from social media platforms, as I only believe this doesn't really educate our children on what is out there, what is appropriate and who/what is trustworthy. Responsible Digital Citizenship is only taught by experience with a trusted adult and an honest conversation. Our children need to learn about privacy, posting, information ownership, trusted sources by having conversations with the adults in their lives. These conversations happen in their classrooms and by their teachers, but children need to hear it again (on repeat, maybe a few dozen times) from many other sources like parents and other trusted adults.
If you are wanting to learn more about internet privacy and having some conversations with your children, take a look here:
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/privacy-and-internet-safety
How to have the conversation: Show genuine interest in what they are interested in. Take it slow. It may seem silly to you but try to avoid judgment and show more empathy / curiosity about their Tic Toks / Snapchats. Ask who they are connected with online and how do they know each other on Instagram. Delight in them in these moments. If you are concerned about something, take it slow and try to avoid angry fear-mongering about what/who they are connected with. Allow them to tell you why they are following and then offer them your perspective. After sometime, when you have given them some of your perspectives on the concern, know that you are the parent and putting up a gentle but firm boundary is what they need. You are the parent and the conversation then the boundary is a life lesson for them.
If you have any concerns, clarifications and questions about internet usage, please reach out to your child's teacher or myself at simone.moniz@eics.ab.ca. While we may not be with your children, we care deeply about their privacy and well being.
Keep well!

School Fees - Sport For Life / Performing Arts / Jasper Ski Trip / Option Fees for 2019 / 2020
Our EICS School board and École OLPH Caltholic school have been working hard to settle accounts and figure out reimbursement of fees paid during the 2019/2020 school year.
This is a complicated matter that needs to be done correctly so as to ensure that families are compensated for the correct amount.
We appreciate your patience while the EICS School board and École OLPH Cathol School determines how this is to be done and takes the time to ensure all accounts are up to date. Optimistically, families should hear very shortly from École OLPH Catholic school in regards to fees already paid for this year.
Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding on this matter.
