WHY BUILD A BOXCAR?
Well because its fun and educational!
THE WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY AND HOW.
During the project they will learn about the physics and dynamic forces that act on a car during the race and have to account for that in their boxcars construction. Students will learn about proper tool and construction habits and how to build a sturdy, strong, fast and most importantly safe vehicle that will cruise past their competitors. Your children will learn teamwork and critical thinking skills as they test out their ideas in model form and make changes moving forward to a final design. Physics, math, and construction knowledge will all be bolstered during this course.
The students will then spend 5 hours outside of class testing model forms of their cars and seeing where adjustments need to be made in the structure and form. Later on they will spend another 10 Testing their vehicles in a number of conditions making sure that it holds up to the weight and rigorous stresses that racing will put onto the structure. They will lastly spend 10 Hours at the races competing in a number of challenges to see which team built the strongest, sturdiest, and fastest car in the course.
The rest of class will take place in a series of construction/computer and mechanics labs. in each of these students will learn how to design and construct their boxcars using proper techniques under the strict supervision.
This course will take place from January 4th to June 25th 2016. Just as the snow melts off.
BUT HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
