From Mr. Lucita

Thanksgiving Break here we come. This is our last week before we have a week off. Although we are about to get a break it doesn’t mean things are slowing down.

This past weekend was the TMEA Region Orchestra clinic/concert and featured our first band member to participate. Congrats again to Parker Taylor.

This week we have the TMEA All Region Band auditions. We are excited to send approximately 20 students to these auditions. Auditions will be held on Thursday and Saturday at Akins HS. A detailed schedule of which students audition on which day will be sent home this week. We want to wish them the very best of luck.

We will also continue to work towards the Johnson Bands Winter Concert! The Concert will be held on December 12 at the Hays CISD PAC. Mark it on your calendar, you don’t want to miss this performance! Also please note that concerts are not optional. This concert is considered an extension of the classroom, therefore, it is not recognized as an extracurricular event. The concert is a Co-Curricular event and eligibility does not apply towards a student being able to perform (all students perform regardless of eligibility); the concert also counts as the majority of the students final semester exam!

Students will soon begin the process of choosing their solos for the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest that will be held in February. Students will choose their solos in an effort to start the preparation process and have their solo to practice over the semester break!

Some people think bands get to take the Spring Semester off, however that is not the case! We are just getting started! Let’s have a great week!

While you might see some things that do not apply to your student, having too much information may be better than not having enough!

Visit the Johnson Band Website for information on how to sync the Charms calendar to your phone. "How to sync" links are located above calendar. Just click on link appropriate for your type of phone!

Remind 101 is a communication option used by lots of teachers and clubs. Once signed up, you can either get the app and look at your messages in the app or you can receive the messages as a text message (or both).

To sign up for Remind 101 for band notifications:

  2. The message will be @jagband19 (type this where you would type your text message)
  3. Hit "send"
  4. If you did this successfully, you will receive a text informing you that you signed up for the band remind messages.

Signing up for Remind for other clubs or classes will be similar. You will always send a text to 81010 but what you type into the text box will be different. For example, for an English class, it might be @smithsenglishclass.
