Science - PD follow-up and info
I have received great feedback from Paul Andersen's professional development with 4th and 5th grade teachers. Paul has included his presentations on his website here:

For Kindergarten-3rd grade teachers who may have visited his website in the past, Paul has continued to add more great resources. Check them out at www.thewonderofscience.com.
STEAM Challenge Reminders/Dates
- Complete your STEAM Challenges by February 28th (since we have our District Challenge at the very end of March, we were able to extend this date).
- Please download this letter to send home with the winning team for your grade level in your building. There is a portion for parents to return to you so that you can be sure of participation.
- Fill out this Google form when you have confirmed participation from parents (no later than March 6th). Be sure students names are spelled correctly, as this is what we will use to create certificates.
- When students return from Spring Break, remind those participating at the district challenge to be at FHHS at their specified time on March 31- just to keep it in their heads!
- Reminder: The county-wide competition is April 22nd at Francis Howell High.
I'd love to come see some of the challenges in action if it will fit in my schedule- let me know if you have an upcoming time!

NGS Navigators Podcast
Seeking high-quality professional development to continue your implementation of the NGSS? Check out NGS navigators, a weekly podcast series hosted by veteran science teacher (Margaret O'Sullivan). This series features interviews with key science education researchers, writers, teachers, and scientists weighting in on impactful NGSS-related topics, such as NGSS Storylining and Driving Questions, Five Practices for Orchestrating Task-Based Discussion, and Engaging in Argument from Evidence. Each approximately 30-minute podcast is accompanied by a web page with an episode summary, highlights, notable quotes, and links for further learning. And, you will hear the familiar voice of Paul Andersen if you listen to Episode 62 from January 15th!NASA Kids' Club
Check out this website for games and other resources to inspire young scientists (preK-4) to learn about NASA and its missions. Share an image from NASA Kids' Club Picture show gallery to spark discussion and interest in science, or watch the Now in Space slideshow to get to know the astronauts on the International Space Station. The site also has space-themed games, puzzles, coloring pages, and mazes that support NGSS and Common Core and reinforce skills in core subjects.
