August 11, 2004 Charley impact Polk county. The hurricane that impacted Polk County lasted 90 minutes. The 1970 Bay of Bengal tropical cyclone killed some 300,000 people

Hurricanes affect wildlife by throwing birds of course, damaging sea life and damaging trees.

  • Hurricane Katrina in 2005 caused even more extensive damage. Loss of coastal forests and trees can be devastating to dependent wildlife species and migratory species. Powerful winds from hurricanes and tropical storms can blow birds off course and push them hundreds of miles away from their home habitat.Similarly an assessment of the effect of that same storm on the Everglades Basin in Florida showed that 182 million fish were killed.

Florida is vulnerable to this weather because of the liquid in our area and because Florida is near the tropics and westerly winds.
