COVID-19 UPDATE
Julie Trepa
MAY 17, 2021
Toreador Families and Community,
The Boone Community School Board of Education held a special board meeting this evening and voted in favor of the following:
Boone Schools will CONTINUE to follow our current COVID-19 mitigation strategies in PK-12th grades during the school days while inside for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. If graduation must take place inside, masks will be required.
Masks will be OPTIONAL for outside activities. These include outside athletic events and graduation (at Goeppinger Field).
As of May 15th, the CDC recommended all school districts maintain all mitigation strategies, including the usage of masks. Safety remains our first priority at Boone Community School District, and while it is very exciting to learn that fully vaccinated individuals no longer need to wear masks in a variety of settings, our schools are made up of students that are largely not vaccinated.
The Iowa Department of Public Health has also recently changed their guidance with regard to quarantining students. As of Friday afternoon, students that are exposed to COVID-19 in a non-household exposure, will not be mandated to quarantine. Household exposures will still be required to quarantine for 10 days, as required previously.
Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to navigate this for the remainder of this school year.
Sincerely,
Julie Trepa
Superintendent

Students to benefit from free school meals next school year
ARLINGTON, VA – The non-profit School Nutrition Association (SNA) commended the Biden Administration for extending several COVID-19 waivers to ensure students can continue to safely receive free school meals through the 2021/22 School Year. SNA members had called for waiver extensions to provide safe, equal access to healthy school meals and address continued pandemic meal service challenges.
“These waiver extensions will ensure hungry students can receive the meals they need to succeed next school year,” said SNA President Reggie Ross, SNS. “School nutrition staff can focus on safely serving students without having to worry about meal applications or collecting payments. Families struggling to make ends meet will know their children are nourished and ready to learn.”
