In and around St. Pat's...CHOOSE JOY!!
School Zone Safety Tips for Schools
Tips for parents:
- Consider parking farther away from the school and walking with your children. There are benefits to this beyond safety, including health and wellness and time to connect before and after school, while also enjoying the outdoors.
- If your children will be walking to school, consider pre-planning a walk route with them to give you peace of mind. Or help gather a small group of close friends to walk together while remaining physically distanced.
- Parents need to be extra vigilant when driving in school zones. Avoid distractions, slow down and watch for children. Remember to be patient and courteous with other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
Reminders for students:
- Pay attention to your surroundings when crossing the street and avoid distractions like hand-held devices or ear buds.
- This is an exciting time for you to reconnect with friends and make new ones. Remember to catch up and visit with them in a safe place, not while crossing the street.
- Use crosswalks or street corners for crossing the street and always avoid jaywalking.
- Use the three Ps when crossing the street: point, pause and proceed. POINT your arm to indicate to drivers that you wish to cross, PAUSE to check for traffic, making eye contact with drivers, and when it is safe to cross, PROCEED to walk, paying attention and checking as you’re crossing.
- If AMA School Safety patrollers are at the crosswalk, please give them space to do their job and always continue to look while crossing.

END OF DAY PHONE MESSAGES TO STUDENTS
It is very difficult to find a child once they have left the classroom at the end of the school day.
PARENT/VISITORS - SCHOOL ACCESS
If entry is needed, screening protocols are required. All visitors will need to use the self-screening tool, wear a mask, hand sanitize and sign-in at the office as a record of all school visitors must be kept.
It is encouraged to call or email the school rather than visit in-person.
If items are forgotten or need to be dropped off - please contact the office before entry.

ARRIVAL
Students who arrive on the bus will go directly to their designated entrances where they will see a marked pylon and will line-up with their homeroom. Students who get dropped off by families should arrive no earlier than 8:15 and proceed to their marked line up. Students will wait in line until their teacher signals them into the boot room to sanitize and proceed to homeroom. With rain/inclement weather, staff will be available to expedite this process where students would access classrooms earlier.
**Late students will be required to enter through the front doors. Proceed directly to office to check in.**
DEPARTURE
Under the direction of their teacher, students will stagger exit from their respective entry point at the end of the day. Bus students will report directly to respective bus line-ups and parents picking children up can wait outside of entrance or at a designated meeting spot (arranged with your child).
PLEASE NOTE: Parents cannot enter the building with their children. We have NO SUPERVISION available earlier than 8:15 am.
SCHOOL PATROL-in front of school
NO PICK-UP/DROP-OFF FROM STAFF PARKING LOT
Please make alternate plans for pick-up/drop-off location as our Staff parking lot is no longer available as an option. This area has become far too congested in the past and is an extreme OH&S concern. Please look at streets/locations that are close to your child' designated entrance where you can safely guide them.. While we understand that this takes away some convenience, we are more concerned about the safety of your children. Please see the attached pic showing some highlighted safe alternatives considerations for drop-off/pick-up.
Thank you for you attention to this.
