MYP update of the week
As we approach the last few weeks of the quarter, you may start to see categories in the gradebook (Schoology or Campus) that are organized by criterion (A, B, C, or D). These criteria reflect the IB-MYP objectives for each course. Each category is assessed for the student's current achievement level for that criterion from 0-8. Because our gradebook is set up based on a traditional A-F scale, it may appear that your child is "failing" an assignment because he/she received a 3/8 on an assessment in one of these categories. Rest assured, this is not the case. The descriptions for the levels of achievement are limited (1 or 2), adequate (3 or 4), substantial (5 or 6), or excellent (7 or 8). So a student receiving an IB-MYP level of 3 in Criterion A would be at an adequate level for that assessment. The categories for the IB-MYP criteria are weighted at 0% in the gradebook, so the levels are reported to students and parents but the level is not calculated into the student's grade.
Students will also receive a traditional grade on that assessment in the summative category of the gradebook, which will be graded on the Ramsey grading scale (90-100% A-range, 80-89% B-range, 70-79% C-range, 60-69% D-range, and below 60% N). Teachers determine the grade that students earn based on the IB-MYP level that the student achieved on the rubric.
If you have questions about this or would like more information, please feel free to e-mail Ms. Fontana atelisabeth.fontana@spps.org.
This week at Ramsey
In Ms. Fontana's ELA Workshop 7 class, we started a new creative writing unit. Students have brainstormed ideas for a realistic fiction short story that they will be writing over the next few weeks.
