All Students : Get ready for your close up!

Rachel Green in Grade 10 is making 2 short films for new parents and students about what it is like being a Halcyon student.

She will be filming (and photographing) around the school over the next 4 weeks starting this Monday.

Filming will be done all around the school so please be aware of your behaviour when you see her with her camera!

If you would like to be specifically interviewed please come and find her whenever to let her know so it can be organised :)

Science Club

Engineers of all ages from kindergarten to graduate school have tried their hand at this classic challenge. Can you make a container or contraption that will protect a raw egg from a long drop? Work on your own or in a team. The contest begins Wednesday lunchtime in the science lab. All welcome. Even teachers. (Please see the link below!)

Are you interested in public speaking?

The Rotary Youth Speaks Competition is a well established and successful competition organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland and sponsored by Gandys (Orphans for Orphans).

If you are interested, please let Ms. McDonald in FO3 now ASAP and you will find a day that is suitable for everybody to meet.

We will be taking part in a public speaking competition at ASL on the 3rd February, so we need to start preparing now. Two teams from Halcyon will be entered:

Wednesday, Nov. 19th, 1:30-4:30pm

Belvedere Rd

Grades 9 and 10 have been invited to a very important and exclusive event this Wednesday - the Our Future, Our Rights event hosted by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). On Thursday, The Convention of Rights of the Child will be 25 years old and to mark this occasion several notable figures will be brought together to the Southbank Centre to debate a range of important issues. The rally will include the London launch of a new global call to action – the #UpForSchool petition – to demonstrate the unprecedented public support for education and an end to discrimination against children. These speakers include former UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown; Kailash Satyarthi (Children's rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, 2014); Kevin Watkins (Executive Director, ODI) and Ann Cotton (Founder and President, CAMFED); plus special video messages from Ban Ki-moon (Secretary-General, United Nations) and Anthony Lake (Executive Director, UNICEF).

INVITATION: IB Diploma Programme information evening for Grade 9 and 10 parents

Wednesday, Nov. 19th, 6:30pm

33 Seymour Pl

We would like to invite Grade 9 and 10 parents to join us for an information session about the IB Diploma Programme, which students in Grade 10 will begin in September 2015 when they enter Grade 11. This information will be useful for all Grade 9 & 10 parents as the students start to think about their subject options in Grade 10 and 11. This format will provide the important opportunity for Grade 10 parents to ask questions and learn about the IB Diploma Programme and how it works. Grade 9 parents are encouraged to attend to begin the learning process of fully understanding the IBDP and how course choices affect work load, IB requirements and university options.

We Want To Hear From You!

Do you have a powerful learning app, tech tip or trick that you think Halcyon staff should be using in their classrooms? We are looking to hear from you at our weekly staff meetings every Monday after school. Please send an email Mrs. Crannell ccrannell@halcyonschool.com with a short description of what you would like to share and why. Mrs. Crannell will schedule a time for you on the staff agenda to present.

Grade 10: Step One Career Testing

First ‘step’ Friday 21 November Periods 1-4 in FO3

Halcyon is very pleased to announce that Step One Career Testing for our Grade 10 students will take place on the morning of Friday 21 November. Step One Career Testing will be an integral part of our Careers programme and our subject selection counselling process for students selecting their IB Diploma Programme subjects.
