The Hidden Gem
El Carmelo Elementary School August 26, 2020
Dear El Carmelo Families,
Our students are settling into distance learning. It has been a joy to pop into their Zoom sessions and see them engaged and learning. Our first graders were writing up a storm about their small moments! Our fifth graders were commenting on each other's posts via Schoology during morning meeting. Each morning our teachers lead their students in activities that connect and build a classroom community of learners. Teachers, aides, and students are making distance learning happen successfully!
Video Cameras On During Instruction
To monitor student engagement, your child must keep his or her camera on during instruction. Please remind your child that the video is on the entire time when teachers give this direction. Depending on the grade level, teachers will provide the option of turning videos off during independent work time.
Back to School Night
Please join me via Zoom, at 5:30 PM. Our entire school will come together to meet our dedicated and thoughtful faculty. You will learn the ways the educational foundation, Partners in Education (Pie), supports El Carmelo. Our PTA will share their plans for this year and how you can get involved. We are looking forward to seeing you!

Looking for ways to support El Carmelo? PiE is a great way to demonstrate your support! Take a look at the attachments below.
Lunch is available to all families. For more information, see below. Lunch application forms are attached.
PiE Funded SPECTRA Art
PiE provides funding for our full-time, five days a week, CASSY counselor, Emily Tahamont, who provides social and emotional classroom lessons and school-based counseling with our students.
Thank you for recognizing the importance of music and dance in creating a well-rounded educational experience for our students. As a result of your thoughtful donation to PiE, all El Carmelo students receive music instruction each week. Our primary students in grades K-2 receive dance in the spring!
Our students also receive SPECTRA Art instruction as a result of your generous donations to PiE! This type of enrichment is unheard of in most California public schools.
Take a look at what SPECTRA Art will include during distance learning in two informative brochures below.
