Early Learners Highlights!
December 9, 2022
Dear Early Learners Families,
Our Gingerbread Unit is such an exciting learning experience for all of our Early Learners. It is definitely one of our favorite times of the year! As we approach our infamous Gingerbread Workshop, please be on the lookout for more information from your child's classroom teacher.
Please take a moment to review a few district updates below, and have a wonderful weekend!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EARLY LEARNERS?
Our classrooms have been learning about all things gingerbread related! We have had gingerbread-themed centers such as gingerbread bakeries and decorate your own gingerbread house at the light table. Having a gingerbread bakery gives students a chance to determine roles, work on problem-solving, and sequencing a multiple-step play scheme. All classes have been working on retelling the story of The Gingerbread Man and other folktales. In our Pre-K classrooms, we have been discussing acts of kindness and coming up with an act of kindness they can complete each day.
In math, we are revisiting shapes through gingerbread-themed math activities to work on shape identification and some patterning. Pre-K classes have also been doing some coding with the bee bots in STEAM Class and will explore other coding activities over the next few days of school. Classrooms have also started going on gingerbread man hunts around the school using clues to visit familiar places in the building. Classes will continue this activity over the next week or so. Next week we will continue with our Gingerbread Unit as we prepare for our Gingerbread Workshop on Wednesday, December 21st!
SPEECH WITH MISS NATHANSON
This week in speech group we read The Spaghetti Slurping Sewer Serpent. As we read the book, the students answered wh-questions pertaining to the story. Throughout the story, the students also made predictions about what they thought was going to happen next. Predicting encourages the students to actively think ahead and ask any questions they may have.
