Note from the Principal
I hope that you are well and enjoying some of this Spring Sunshine!
Please find the MMS Newsletter for 3/24/23 with information about all the wonderful things happening here at MMS.
I wanted to bring two things to your attention that we could use your help with.
Nicholas Roy is the MMS Representative to Project 351. Part of what Nicholas is doing is a clothing drive to support the organization Cradles to Crayons. He is looking to the MMS Family to support this drive. Your student can bring in new and/or gently used clothing for ages 0-12. If you have any clothing that you are looking to donate, you can bag it up and send it in with your child. There are two boxes by the MMS Main Office where the donations can be placed. This drive will run until March 31st anything you can do is greatly appreciated.
Also the MMS is supporting Leah Tessler's Senior Project of collecting food for the Millis Food Pantry. Any donation of canned goods is greatly appreciated. Students can find these boxes in their homeroom classes. This will also run until March 31st.
Thank you for all your support of these students and their work. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at any time.
Enjoy the Newsletter and have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Paul

News from the Art Room
Some of our amazing Millis Middle School students currently have their art on display in the annual Massachusetts Art Education Association Youth Art Month Exhibit.
This is a virtual exhibit that showcases work from schools across the state. If you have the opportunity please take a look at the beautiful art created by our students via the link below. You can scroll to find the section (slides 57 - 60) for Millis. There is also a link on each slide to leave fan mail for the artists. Any comments would be much appreciated as these students worked so hard.
Also, if you go to the link and scroll to the bottom, you will see the prizewinning state flag design by Millis 6th grader, Josie. This competition is highly competitive. Please give Josie some much-deserved congrats if you see her.
Thanks for supporting the creativity in our kids.

Principal's Notes
Hope that all is well with you and that you have recovered from the clock's one hour SPRING forward. Lots of exciting things going on here at MMS. Today actually marks the end of trimester II here at MMS. We are heading into the final trimester of the year. Just to let families know, report cards for trimester II will be distributed to students on Monday, March 27th.
This past Wednesday our grade seven students hosted their annual STEAM Fair and STEAM Open house to families. It was a great event and very well attended. Students proudly displayed their project results and talked with judges and parents alike about their research. Students and Families should be proud of their work. A special thank you to Mrs. Hickey for organizing the fair and to all of the faculty, staff and former MMS students who took time out of their day to be judges. There will be pictures to follow of this event!
As we enter into the final trimester we have many things that will be happening both in school and after school. Spring sports will be starting up, our MMS Drama group will be competing in a Festival in May and much, much more.
Please take time to review the Newsletter below.
Enjoy!
Paul

Navigating the Mental Health System in Massachusetts can be challenging, to say the least. Please see below for some important information.
It can be difficult to navigate the mental health system. Here is some information that you might find useful/helpful when trying to.
PsychologyToday.com is the best bet to find someone in the area. If you have Masshealth/MBHP, you can use this portal. Mass.gov has a portal to look at for resources.
Most important advice is:
1) Get on every wait list.
2) Make a spreadsheet to keep track of dates/names/phone calls etc.
3) Make weekly calls to check on the status (you have to be a strong advocate).
4) Check with the pediatrician too - sometimes they have someone in their office and/or they can put in an expedited referral to somewhere else.
5) Ask your insurance co. if they have a social worker to help you find a therapist (a lot of them have someone to help with the process).
6)Make weekly calls to check on the status (you have to be a strong advocate).
7)Make weekly calls to check on the status (you have to be a strong advocate).
8)Make weekly calls to check on the status (you have to be a strong advocate).
Good luck!!

Note from the Principal
Dear MMS Families:
I hope that this letter finds you and your family well. As we enter the Spring season I am reflecting on the past few months here at MMS. Each morning, at the end of the morning announcements, I tell everyone to be kind to one another and to spread kindness throughout the day. Many of our students and staff take this charge very seriously and I can see acts of kindness and polite behavior from many. There are some times where kindness is not the focus and we can run into situations where students lose focus on treating others with respect and kindness. In my many years in middle school education I have come to learn that kindness is something that we can teach our students and can be exhibited in many ways. Over the next few weeks your students may hear from their teachers and the MMS staff about kindness and how important it is to treat others with kindness and respect. It always brings me great pleasure to recognize kindness in others and to help promote kindness throughout the school and our community. I will be recognizing acts of kindness throughout our building during the month of March. I want to thank our MMS parents for supporting our focus on a culture of kindness and would like to encourage you to talk with your children about what role they may have taken in spreading kindness throughout our school and community. I can be as simple as a smile and a thank you.
I know that we have a few more weeks of winter but here is to a wonderful and refreshing spring that brings a rejuvenation of kindness throughout our community.
Sincerely,
Paul
