Parking Lot Procedures

Please review our Parking Lot Procedures for drop off and pick up. Follow the link for diagrams and detailed explanations. When retrieving your children in the afternoon, we ask that everyone please proceed directly to their cars so we can begin to dismiss ASAP.

Special Note: The only cars that are allowed to park on the Park Avenue apron at pickup time are those retrieving Preschoolers ONLY. Preschool is released 20 minutes earlier than the rest of the school, so those families can vacate before the rest of the children fill the lot. Therefore, those picking up older children in addition to a preschooler should enter the lot, retrieve their little one, and then wait in line for the older children to dismiss with everyone else. Likewise, there should be NO cars parked on Chicago Avenue or in our teacher lot for pickup.

Our policies are in place to protect the children, the parents, our parking lot monitors, and your cars. Our dismissal is very streamlined and does not take very long. We ask our students to follow rules every day. Please lead by example and follow the rules when you drop them off/pick them up. Let's have a safe and happy year! Thank you!

No School!

There will be no school on Friday, August 30 or Monday, September 2--Enjoy a lovely four-day weekend! Classes will resume Tuesday, September 3.

For your planning purposes, looking ahead there is also no school on Friday, September 20 for a Staff Development day.

Frankfest Planning

Here's your opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the Frankfest planning! Our annual back to school party is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year for students, staff, and families alike--this year it will take place on Friday, Sept. 13. Attendance at the planning meeting will earn you a volunteer hour, and you'll have the chance to ask questions and contribute ideas. Frankfest Raffle Baskets

One of the highlights of our big back to school party is the classroom raffle baskets! Each teacher chooses a theme for her class’s basket, and then we ask the families in their classes to donate items, gift cards, etc. that support that theme. For instance, a movie night basket is great with some DVDs, popcorn, boxes of candy, an AMC gift card, etc. The teachers have chosen their themes for this year’s Frankfest raffle baskets and are now seeking donations to help make the baskets fun and exciting. In addition to new items supporting the themes, gift cards are always welcome, as well as cash donations so items may be purchased for the baskets. Please send in your donations marked clearly with your students’ names and grades by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6. Basket themes by grade will be as follows:

PreK: Chocoholics

Kindergarten: Healthy Basket

1st Grade: Camping

2nd Grade: Gardening

3rd Grade: Movie Mania

4th Grade: Italian Food

5th Grade: Spa Basket

6th/7th Grade: Family Night Out

8th Grade: Lucky Lotto Basket (scratch off tix etc...)

Thursday Envelope 101

We discovered several years back that the Thursday Envelope was a very efficient means of delivering necessary information and forms into parents' hands. Rather than having to search the bottom of the bookbags every day in case something important might be there, you can expect that the bulk of our communiques will come home neatly on one day in one big manila envelope. The envelopes come home with the youngest member of the family enrolled at SAS. We do need each parent to remove the contents, sign and date the front, and return those envelopes the next day so that you will be able to receive the next week's delivery. Please do not send anything BACK to school in the envelope--it is one way communication only, and no one at the office or in the classroom checks to see if there is anything inside. So your hot lunch forms, permission slips, or notes to the teacher will sit there unnoticed and likely return to you the next week. Should your Thursday Envelope be lost or damaged, please notify the office immediately. Thank you!

Head Room Parents

Many of you signed up with your teachers already to be Room Parents. Thank you so much for that! Your children will reap the benefits, plus, they are so excited to see their moms, dads, and other special people helping out. Each grade does need to have one Head Room Parent to organize the teacher's special goings-on, manage the volunteer efforts, and represent the class from time to time. Our Head Room Parents will receive the full 15-hour volunteer credit for the year! Would you be able to fill that role for one of your children's classes? if so, please visit the Signup link and claim your spot! We will soon be in touch and have a Room Parent meeting to plan out the year. Thank you!
