PWSSD Covid-19 Mitigation Changes (emailed to District on 1/10/2022)
January 10, 2022
Dear PWSSD Families,
The Port Washington - Saukville Board of Education, in compliance with the COVID-19 mitigation strategy metric, will follow the updated isolation and quarantine guidelines put forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and endorsed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department.
The required isolation for individuals who are symptomatic for COVID-19 and do not test or for individuals who test positive for COVID-19 is as follows:
- Isolate through 5 days from symptom onset or positive test date (whichever comes first). The first day of symptoms or positive test date is day 0. If fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications and other symptom improvement, you may return on day 6 with required mask use for an additional 5 days (day 6 through day 10).
- Quarantine will continue to be required for close contacts within the same household of a positive individual who are not fully vaccinated (including booster if over 18 and Pfizer or Moderna primary vaccination series greater than 6 months ago or J & J vaccine greater than 2 months ago). The required quarantine is 5 days from the last date of close contact. The close contact may return on day 6 with required mask use for an additional 5 days (day 6 through 10). Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days do not need to quarantine due to close contact regardless of same household or vaccination status.
We will continue to follow the approved metric for mask wearing and our other mitigation measures.
We appreciate your support and continued efforts to keep our students and staff safe and in person.
Best Regards,
Port Washington-Saukville School District COVID-19 Response Team

Snow Day Plans for LES
On the first snow day, we will not be facilitating classes. It will be a traditional "No School" snow day. Any snow day after the first one, we will be having a virtual school day. Your child's teacher will be sending out a schedule for these days. We have planned for a common start time, break time, and lunch to make this easier for you at home. In addition, your child will have one special class each day. The special he/she will have is dependent on the day of the week the snow day happens. Your child must participate during the virtual day to have his/her attendance counted as present.
RECESS
Please be sure your child comes to school each day prepared for the weather. Winter coats, hats, and gloves are very important for keeping kids comfortable during recess. As soon as there is snow on the ground, students who choose to play on the snow hills, woodchips, or in the field will be required to have snow pants and boots. Those students without boots and snow pants will be limited to playing on the blacktop only. Recess will be outdoors unless the temperature and/or wind chill drops below 0°.
Also, an extra shirt, pair of sweatpants/leggings, and pair of dry socks are very helpful in case of run-ins with melting snow at recess or milk spills at lunch. We have a very limited supply of items to loan, and when we run out, we will need to phone a parent to get dry clothing.
