Getting Back to School
Dear Families,
It is with much gratitude that I write this to you. We have experienced an event if great magnitude in our Valley. I am not a native Sonoman however this has been my home for many years. We raised our son here and the majority of my professional life has been here in the Valley. Events such has this make one appreciate the little things in life. Getting back to our school routine and learning is a good step in the direction of healing.
We will take very good care of your children and will have additional staff on site to support those in need. Our Family Resource Center will be open if you are in need of support. EV is committed to our community and will always be here for you and your family.
As you hopefully heard on the district phone call, we are well on our way in preparing for the return of students to school this Monday, October 23. Our custodians Max and Martin have been putting in extra efforts to clean the campus, and it looks amazing. Our maintenance department has already changed over all the air filters in our HVAC systems, and they are circulating the air in our classes. We are finishing up by cleaning all surfaces in and our of the classrooms and washing down the play structures.
In addition to getting the physical site ready for kids, our staff is getting prepared academically and emotionally as well. In losing two weeks, teachers will spend time Thursday and Friday organizing their curriculum to adjust for the missed days. On the other side, our school psychologist trained EV staff on supporting students emotionally as they transition back to school. Teachers are prepared to address issues proactively and positively.
While we are anxious to start, our district used caution in getting things ready. Our main concern was putting student safety first. Below is a video explaining what factors went into the decision to re-open on Monday.
Conference Week
Fall conferences were canceled due to school closures. More information will follow. As always, please contact your classroom teacher if you have an immediate concern.
Air Quality
We will be closely watching the air quality next week to ensure our students are safe. We will be using the Air Quality Index at www.airnow.gov. If the AQI is less than 100, we will be having outside recess. If the quality is over 100, we will look at indoor recess.
October 30 Student Day
October 30 was scheduled as a Staff Development Day. Students would not attend school this day. Because we missed two weeks of instruction with the fire, we are canceling the Staff Development Day and making it a regular student day.
