Third Grade News
Week of June 9, 2015
Dear Parents,
Happy last day of Third Grade! It's hard to believe that the school year ends today. I consider myself truly blessed to have been your child's teacher this year and look forward to seeing them in the halls next year. I am proud at how hard students worked this year on projects and tackling their first ever SOLs.
Have a wonderful rest of the week. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. You can reach me via the email or phone number at the bottom of the newsletter. Have a great summer!
Ms. Hutchins
The PTO is trying out a new fundraiser this year called First Day School Supplies. It is a kit with everything your child will need as they move up to the next grade. It's very easy and all of the teachers here have customized it so it matches the list you will receive. The prices are competitive and the products are name brand and the kits will be delivered right to the school! The best part, in my opinion is that the profits we make from parents who purchase the kits will be used to buy kits for families who can't afford to buy them.
It's a great deal and the reason you keep hearing about it now is because you must place your order by June 30th! Here is the link to our school's site:

More Summer Resources!
Summer is a great break for students, but it's also a time when a lot of students slide backwards in the progress they made during the school year. Here are a few free resources that you should check out to help your student over the summer!
Khan Academy- A free math resource to work on math, no matter the level of your child. Check it out today!
Summer Reading Challenge/JMRL- Grab the bingo style challenge sheet from the library to keep them reading this summer! Students already completed several of the June activities during our field trip last week. They earned a JMRL backpack for their hard work! The July sheet was in their Tuesday Folder today!
Here are the previous resources I shared in case you don't have the link anymore!
TenMarks-A math site where your child takes a diagnostic assessment that provides them targeted activities to work on low areas. We have used this site all year in math and students are familiar with the setup. Once students complete targeted activities they unlock games (mathematically based of course) they can also play. Check it out today!
Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program- Students can earn a free book of their choosing if they read 8 books and complete the reading log. This is a great incentive for students to continue their 20 minutes of reading each night over the summer months. In the past, students have enjoyed the selection of books and the feeling of achievement when they picked out their free book!
