Hephaestus

Hephaestus was the son of Zeus, the king of the gods and Hera the goddess of marriage. His Roman name is Vulcan. He was considered the god of the blacksmiths. He created two assistants, who were like robots, that were made out of gold. He made all of the weapons and armor for the gods on Mount Olympus. He made the arrows that Cupid used and Athena's shield. He also built golden palaces and the thrones for all the Olympian gods and goddesses.

A long fall

When his mother Hera first saw Hephaestus, she was upset about the way he looked. She was so upset ,she threw him off of Mount Olympus into the seas. He was finally rescued by Nereids, Thetis and Eurynome. They raised him for nine years inside a cave far away from his mother.The fall caused deformity in his leg. He walked with a limp and had to use a cane for support.

Erichthonius

Hephaestus had one son Erichonius. He was half man and half serpent. Legends states that later he became the king of Athens. Hephaestus had a daughter name Pandora. She was the first woman who was created out of clay.
