COUNSELOR APPRECIATION WEEK
It’s National School Counseling Week and CHS loves its counselors! Thank you to Ms. Kirstin Wiley, Mrs. Violet Nelson, Mr. Bruce Ireland, Mr. Curtis Owen, Mrs. Bea Garcia, Mrs. Connie Rice, and Mrs. Kathy Baumann for the tremendous impact you have in helping CHS students achieve school success and plan for a career! Students, don’t forget to write “thank you” notes to your counselor during lunch on Thursday at the StuCo table. Special thanks to Mrs. Dyke’s 9th grade AVID students for helping us get to know each of the counselors a little better.
NATONAL YOUTH CORRESPONDENT
Gabriel Hawthorne, a Chandler High School Junior, has been selected to represent Gilbert, Arizona as a National Youth Correspondent to the 2019 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University. In July, he will join a select group of students from all over the country for an intensive study of journalism and media. Hawthorne was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies. Congratulations, Gabe! Click here for more info on this great honor.

ACADEMIC DECATHLON REGIONAL COMPETITION
This weekend, CHS’s Academic Decathlon regional team competed at Red Mountain High School. The nine selected students took tests in the seven subject areas of art, music, literature, science, social science, economics, and mathematics. They also wrote essays, gave speeches, and participated in interviews.

GIRLS BASKETBALL- TUESDAY IS SENIOR NIGHT!
The Girls Basketball Booster Club is offering FREE Student Admission (with ID) for the Girls Basketball game at home on Tuesday, February 5th which is also Senior Night. During both lunches on Tuesday, StuCo will sponsor basketball activities. There will also be a DJ at the game. Come out and support the Girls Basketball Team!

Chandler FFA presented at the Bologna STEM night. Bologna students and parents learned about GMO crops and extracted DNA from Wheat. Did you know we only have 10 GMO crops and they go through 75 different test to get approved, costing approximately 130 million dollars per crop? Chandler FFA taught students about the 5 C's of Arizona and how they impact our lives.

Jostens has reopened Senior Ads sales until this Friday, Feb. 8th or until the last 1 ½ pages left for Senior Ads are sold. Sales will be on a first come first serve basis. Please see the attached flyer, and ignore the deadline date.
MUSICAL SAVE THE DATE
DUAL ENROLLMENT- SPRING SEMESTER
If your student is taking a course for Dual Enrollment through CGCC for the Spring Semester and it is not a full year course, this Friday (February 8th) is the last day to add/drop or turn in registration forms. If your student needs a registration form, they can get one from their counselor. Chandler Gilbert Community College requires that the student/parent submit the form directly to them at the Dual Enrollment Office on their campus.
Next Monday (February 11th) is the PAYMENT DEADLINE. Any students with unpaid tuition will be dropped without notice. If students owe tuition, after Tuition Assistance is awarded, the remaining balance must be paid or they must have signed up for the payment plan or they will be dropped without notice.
Students should confirm that they are registered and have paid by checking their CGCC student account.
ATTENTION: PARENTS OF FRESHMEN
The IMPACT Chandler Scholars application is available on your student’s Infinite Campus Portal. IMPACT Chandler Scholars is an opportunity for your student to earn a scholarship. Please have your student review the criteria and accept the opportunity on their Infinite Campus Portal. The application closes on March 8, 2019. For more information on this program, please visit the Chandler Education Foundation website.
AP TEST Fees
AP parents and students: The Total Registration site had a February 8, 2019 deadline for AP test fees. This supersedes any dates previously published. CHS is honoring the February 8th date as the last day for payment without a $10.00 late fee per exam.

Each year, CHS selects two junior girls to represent our school at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. This unique summertime leadership program focuses on teaching young people how to understand and appreciate the principles of a democratic society. Click here for more info and an application.

All Latina girls interested in engineering and/or science education and envision a future career in a technical field are invited to attend the "Design Your Future" Hermanas conference on February 8, 2019. You must submit an unofficial PDF copy of your 7th semester transcripts to NAU by February 10th in order for them to verify your eligibility for this award. Students must accept their offer of admissions by May 1st in order to be considered for merit awards.
