Village Kindness Week!

The Great Kindness Challenge, celebrated January 24-28, started very close to home at a school in Carlsbad! The goal is to engage in acts of kindness in support of “creating a culture of compassion, acceptance, unity and respect.” This year, we’ve planned simple classroom-based activities and a campus-wide spirit initiative.

Please see the light blue kindess flyer attached. It will guide our classrooms as we collect our acts of kindess filling our community and campus with love. We encourage you to work with your student to check off as many as possible throughout the week!

We’ve also ordered postcards that will be available to every class. If students want, they can send a kind, loving message or drawing to anyone in their life. Students can hand-deliver the messages or ask their parents to help them mail the postcards to someone special. So families, if you see these postcards come home, you know what they are and why we supplied them.

The final classroom activity we have planned will help carry our focus on kindness beyond this single week. Each classroom will receive a “kindness bucket” kit. The idea is to place a colorful pom pom in the bucket any time a student engages in an act of kindness within their class. Once the bucket is full of poms, the class plans a celebration of their accomplishment. Teachers will work with their students on celebration ideas (special read aloud, extra time for free play or recess, a special trinket, etc) that are exciting to them and feasible for our staff.

Our campus-wide activities include spirit days with opportunities to dress up and celebrate our efforts together. Students will also see kind messages/pictures on our bathroom mirrors to spread cheer. Our counseling team will also be out and about to support our mission!

Happy Kindness Week VIllage Families!

We will continue our Kindness Challenge all through February and encourage all families to document with a photo, the Act of Kindess completed. Please send the photo to heidi.bergener@coronadousd.net. Pictures will be featured in our bulletin and will have a chance to me memorialized forever in our yearbook! Will this be you? Join in on the fun!
