The Good News-Oct. 11
Saint John XXIII Catholic School 2021-2022
Sending our St. John families abundant blessings and love at Thanksgiving. We are grateful for you.
October 11 is the feast day of our school saint: Saint John XXIII
Our School Saint: Saint John XXIII
The word saint comes from the Latin sanctus and means "holy". Throughout the bible, saint is used to refer to all who believe in Jesus. In our Catholic faith, sainthood was not just those who had faith in Christ but more specifically those who lived lives of virtuous action inspired by that faith. (learnreligions.com)
We are so blessed at our school that we get to learn about and follow the virtuous life of Saint John XXIII. Today, October 11th, marks the feast day of Saint John XXIII.
Pope St. John XXIII (1881–1963) was one of thirteen children born in Lombardy, Italy. Desiring to serve God with his life, he entered seminary at the age of 12, and, after serving in the Italian Army, was ordained a priest in Rome in 1904. Saint John XXIII served as a military chaplain, a bishop, and eventually Pope at the age of 76. He took the name John which had not been used in over 500 years. He was known as gentle, wise, and courageous. People saw him as a good and loving shepherd of Christ and gave him the name of "Good Pope".
Pope Saint John XXIII was the 261st pope of the Catholic Church. Pope John XXIII was pope from 1958-1963 and is most remembered for having called the Second Vatican Council and setting the Church to a process he described with the Italian term “Aggiornamento” or bringing up to date. He said, “I want to open up the windows of the church, so that we can see out and the people can see in.” (catholiccompany.com)
He was canonized by Pope Francis together with Pope John Paul II in 2014. Today, we follow St. John's daily devotion of God through his, Decalogue for Daily Living, which we learn about at our faith assemblies and challenge ourselves to live like Saint John XXIII.
Saint John XXIII, Pray for us.
Blessings,
Mrs. Bonnie-Lynne Boehm

Parent School Council: Halloween Costume Swap
There will be a donation box outside of our front door for any families who wish to donate gently used, clean Halloween costumes for the swap. Students can also bring these to schools, a box will be located inside the school at the office. Donated costumes must be CLEAN, COMPLETE and on a hanger with size marked, and a plastic (grocery store style) bag attached. Leftover costumes will be donated.
On October 22, any students who wish to head to the gym during their classes' scheduled time can do so and select a costume of their choice. *This will be completely dependent on the number of costumes and sizes we receive*.
We are in need of a few parent volunteers who would be willing to facilitate the Costume swap on Friday, October 22 in the gym. One parent per time slot.
Please contact the office if you are able and willing to volunteer for this. Mrs. Boehm will contact you to confirm. *There are COVID protocols that must be aligned with for our parent volunteers.
