MLC News- Winter Break Edition
December 15, 2017
From Alexa
In this week's newsletter, we have information about our upcoming parent equity events, and an important message from Kiva. I also included a flyer from Portland Family Homeless Solutions. I've volunteered with PFHS for many years at their Goose Hollow location. This week they opened a second night shelter location due to the high number of houseless families in Portland this winter. The second location is at Beth Israel down the street from MLC. If you are looking for ways to volunteer, this is an amazing group. If you like to cook, they especially need meal providers! See the attached flyer below for details.
I wish you all a happy new year! See you in 2018.

Upcoming Parent Equity Meetings At MLC
The purpose of these meetings is to engage in conversations about race as a commitment to actively deconstruct systematic racism. This is everyone's work--students, staff, and families. This work begins with a personal understanding about race and your own racial identity. By engaging in his work, we hope to be better able to deepen our skills to talk openly about race. We use the Courageous Conversations about Race framework to strengthen our own competence, speak our truths, and form relationships as we strive to raise children who will create a more equitable society.
The Parent Equity Planning Team met in December and set the following dates for continuing this important work. Pizza and childcare will be provided for all of the meetings. Everyone is welcome to attend (whether you've joined us before or not).

News (and a request) for the Library
From The Library Shelves
Greetings, lovely MLC community! The library is looking ahead to a wonderful 2018 and we are hoping you can help us make some things happen. To that end, we are looking for donations of any iPads you are not using anymore. Do you have an older, outdated iPad that you’re planning to replace with an updated one? Or one you just don’t use anymore? The library would love to have it! We don’t care how old it is as long as we can add an app or two to it! And we are happy to provide you with a receipt of your donation for tax purposes! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask Kiva: kliljequist@pps.net or (50)916-5737.Thanks for all your support!
