Battle of the Books
If your 4th or 5th grader is interested in participating in the Rock Hill Battle of the Books this year – regardless of what school he/she will attend in January – please send the lower portion of the Battle of the Books letter back to school with your child by ASAP. The link to the letter can be found here. The Battle of the Books will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019. Click on the attached document below to access the letter.
Pumpkin Decorating Contest
The Lesslie Elementary Library is sponsoring a pumpkin decorating contest this Halloween. To enter the contest, students are asked to decorate pumpkins as their favorite storybook characters. Be sure to attach a sheet of paper to your child’s pumpkin with the student’s name, teacher, and the storybook character the pumpkin represents. All pumpkins should be brought to the library before 7:45 on the morning of Wednesday, October 31. The students should come back to the library and pick their pumpkins up before they leave to go home that day. Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Be creative and have fun!!!
Read Your Way to the Big Game
Make sure you are Reading Your Way to the Big Game – the Carolina/Clemson game, that is – on November 24! Remember to read 6 reading-level appropriate books, and write them on the back of the blue sign-up sheet that your teacher gave to you. Turn the sheet in by November 7, and you will have a chance to win 4 tickets to the Big Game. Good Luck!! Click on the attached document below to sign up.
Counselor's Corner
October is our month set aside to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a campaign founded by the National Family Partnership to bring awareness to the impact of drugs and to encourage drug prevention activities. It is nationally recognized and observed at most schools across the nation. We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week at Lesslie during the week of October 29th-Nov.2nd with a week full of great activities for our students and staff. I will be teaching classroom guidance lessons on healthy choices and personal safety for all students, in addition, peer pressure and decision-making for 4th grade and 5th grade students. Pleas check out redribbonweek.org to learn more information about Red Ribbon Week, activities that you can do with your children at home, and a cool contest for families with great prizes! More information is forthcoming regarding fun spirit week dress out days for students!
