Dear Husmann Parents & Guardians,
At our January PBIS assembly, we set our school-wide goal for the month of February. Our goal was to 'Increase learning time ⬆ within the classroom by decreasing disruptions ⬇.'
Some examples of common disruptions within a classroom can include making loud or distracting noises, persisting in speaking without being called on, leaving your seat or the classroom without permission, or speaking over your teacher or a classmate while they are speaking.
The ways in which our Cougars are working on meeting that goal and thus avoiding disruptions is by using full body listening when someone is speaking, "asking three before me" (asking three classmates for help before asking the teacher) and being an active listener.
We encourage our families to chat with their Cougars at home about what this looks like in their classroom! Ask your child what they are personally working on in order to help us reach our school-wide goal. Those are also some great strategies to practice full body listening at home as well. We understand that the home environment is different than the school one, but by working together, we can all help our Cougars be their absolute best!
Your Partners in Education,
Mr. Sromek & Ms. Fitzgerald
Volleyball Club for 5th Graders!
Calling all interested 5th grade students for an after school volleyball club hosted by Miss Rounds and Ms. Kuhns! Come and join this club with your 5th grade friends! We are looking for 4 teams of 6-7 5th grade students who are interested in playing volleyball after school on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. We will be reviewing basic rules of volleyball, practicing as teams and ending with a fun tournament during our last session. The kids will need to wear gym shoes for the sessions. We will meet in the gym on Thursdays in March and April. The dates are March 2, 9, 16, 23 and April 6, 13, 20. Permission slips have been sent home for those interested. To be added to the club, please return the slips NO LATER THAN Wednesday, February 23rd. If we do not have enough players, we will be opening the club to 4th grade students.

Virtual Parenting Series with Jackie Rhew
All District 47 families are invited to attend the third of a four-part virtual parenting series with Jackie Rhew on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 @ 7pm via Zoom. Jackie Rhew is a clinical consultant, author/speaker, and co-founder of the Center for Emotional Wellness in Crystal Lake and Arlington Heights. This discussion will focus on the number one reason young people seek counseling, anxiety. But what exactly is anxiety? And how do you recognize it and help a child who suffers from it? In this in-depth workshop, parents/guardians will learn the difference between stress and anxiety and how to support a child who is struggling. They will also learn how to help their child(ren) build resiliency and if/when to seek professional help. Translation will be available in multiple languages via captioning in Zoom. Click here for the Zoom link and directions on how to enable captions for language translation.
2023 5Essentials Parent Survey
The 5Essentials parent survey, administered online by UChicago Impact, is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of schools. It is intended to help school districts understand the conditions at each school and to help guide improvement. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. Parents are encouraged to take the survey for their child's school by visiting https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. Parent identity and survey responses will be kept confidential and will not be connected to their student(s). Families can submit one survey for each child. The 5Essentials survey window will be open through March 31, 2023.
