From the Desk of Dr. Rodriguez
IT'S TIME FOR SPIRIT WEEK!!! From wearing their class shirts to donning their Halloween costumes, students LOVE next week for all of its wacky flair. This year's Spirit Week may look a bit different from those in years past, but we are sure it is going to be a hit nonetheless. Please refer to the calendar below for what students should wear and when.
Next week is also Red Ribbon Week, a national campaign aimed at informing students about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and prescription and illegal drugs. Part of Riviera's philosophy of educating the whole child is instilling a sense of right and wrong, including in social situations. Our faculty and staff emphasize the need for our students to say no to drugs. The information presented to students is always age appropriate and relative to what each student may encounter in the future. On Wednesday, as just one way to show the rest of the world that we are committed to saying no to drugs, faculty, staff, and students in grades 1 - 5 will sign their name on a school-created pledge form, promising to refuse drugs and alcohol. It is an activity that we hope will have a lasting impact on students, and remind them that living a clean life is the best type of life to live!
Have a GREAT weekend, and be on the lookout for our next installment of Friday at 4:00 in one week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodriguez

Multi-Dimensional Learning
Our students in grade 4 have studied how scientists use different types of models to communicate hard-to-understand ideas. Some of these ideas may be too far to reach, too dangerous to touch, or simply too expensive to build. When fourth graders learned how a three-dimensional model is useful, they understood that the model would display length, width, and height. Mr. Kauffman, our outstanding 4th and 5th grade science teacher, challenged students to create a 3D model of their bedroom using as much recyclable material as possible. This project gave many students the opportunity to express their architectural design, engineering, and creative skills. Needless to say, Mr. Kauffman was thoroughly impressed! Here are some samples of the excellent work our fourth graders submitted.
