First Week of School

Let me begin by saying that we are currently preparing to attend 5 days per week for the 2021-2022 school year. However, as many of you are already aware, the first week of school will be different this year. For the first week only we will be dividing our students into two attendance groups. This will give our staff additional time to collect necessary paperwork, practice routines and procedures, and troubleshoot technology issues.

Students whose last name begins with A-J will report to school on August 9 and August 10. Students whose last name begins with K-Z will report on August 12 and August 13. If there are students in the same household with different last names, those students will report on the same day. They will report to school on the day assigned to the oldest child. Brooks High School and Brooks Elementary School are using the same rules for first-week attendance. Other schools in Lauderdale County may be using different last name designations.

All students will report to school on Monday, August 16.

Parking Lot Upgrades and Student Drop-off/Pick-up

We are very thankful to have our parking lot upgraded in time for the start of the school year. The front parking area had been repaved, and the rear parking area has been resealed. All parking spaces are now angled spaces to allow our inexperienced drivers easier parking access. In order to do this, we had to change the direction of traffic flow in some areas. Again, this was done to improve safety for our young drivers as well as our students being picked up or dropped off.

All students should be dropped off and picked up in the lower front parking lot. Students should cross the parking lot in the crosswalk that is now in place, and climb the steps to enter the building. All traffic must enter the lower front lot from the west side of the lot and exit from the east side of the lot. There should be no pick-up or drop-off in front of the gym or behind the school.

The diagram below should help to explain the flow of traffic from 7AM until 3:30 PM. The green arrows represent the flow for parents picking up or dropping off. The yellow arrows represent bus traffic flow. The blue arrows represent student drivers and the red arrows represent staff drivers.
