Counselor NEWS
February, 2021
Hello All!
Happy February! We are finishing up our career exploration unit. The students have been learning about personal interests and strengths. This month our Sources of Strength character traits are empathy and acceptance. We will continue to discuss and explore in our classroom lessons how to create a school environment inclusive and accepting of all persons and abilities.
Spreading love and joy!
Our S.O.S peer mentors are asking the student body to write a card and or draw a picture for individuals who are at Altru's cancer center and are unable to have visitors through this global pandemic. This is a great way for our student body to show empathy for others!
STOPit App
The first week of February all 5th - 8th graders who have a cell phone will work with myself to download and access the STOPit App. This app if a reporting app for bullying and mental health situations. Students and parents will have the opportunity to report instances that may be uncomfortable to report to a typical bullying box for fear of being seen. I will address expectation with students while using this app. We will also address again the difference between what is teasing, mean teasing and legitimate bullying. Our school policy does not tolerate bullying and we take all claims seriously.
The definition of bullying....
"Bullying is when someone repeatedly says or does something mean or hurtful things to another person who has a hard time defending themselves." ~ Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.
Take Care of You!
As always practice self-care. With all the demands of the world, families, jobs, and daily lives please take the utmost care. You cannot give from an empty cup. Please let me know if i can assist you and your family in anyway.
