Monthly Events Of Wildcats: OCTOBER 2020

Principals Message

Hello Wildcat families,

I am beyond proud to be a TEWMS Wildcat! More so this year than ever. The teachers, students, and staff are working effortlessly to adjust to this unique school year. We are seeing our students demonstrate their resilience every day on campus and in classrooms. I know that it has not been perfect and I appreciate your grace and compassion as we learn and adjust to teaching students both in the brick and mortar setting as well as our mySchool Online (MSO) students.

I think it is important for the Wildcat community to be aware that our families are making the right choices in keeping their students home when they are not feeling well. This due diligence is why we have had minimal impact on our campus from COVID-19. I thank the families that are communicating with us regarding their students health status, as it allows us to better support the family; this is for ALL students, including our MSO Wildcats. Please also know that the entire Wildcat staff is also taking precautions with regards to our health while on campus. Below you will find the student self-screener that we ask all students to review daily prior to coming on campus.

There are two reasons why students may be excluded from campus due to COVID-19: isolation and quarantine.

The FIRST reason a student may be excluded from campus is because they need to be in isolation. Students who have COVID-like symptoms (and are not tested) will be required to stay home (isolate) until the following criteria have been met:

  • At least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared AND

  • At least 24 hours after the last fever has resolved without taking medication to reduce fever AND

  • Symptoms have improved

Students may return in fewer than 10 days with school nurse (RN) verification of one of the following:

  • with medical documentation of alternate diagnosis as reason for symptoms OR
  • with documentation of negative PCR COVID-19 test (blood antibody test not accepted)

The SECOND reason a student may be excluded from campus is because they need to be quarantined. When a student is in close contact (exposed less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) with someone who tested positive, the student will need to quarantined at home for up to 14 days. Students may not return in fewer days than determined by the health department.

Pasco County Schools is committed to being transparent in the number of cases and impact on campus. They are updating this information daily here:

PAWS chats

This month we will be having chats with students about their progress and goals. In the past, we called these data chats, this year we are calling them P.A.W.S = Personal Awareness With Support. We will be reviewing student grades as well as talking with them about:

  • What is the most important thing you want to accomplish this year?
  • What is going on in your world? What do you want to talk about?
  • Are you sleeping well? What makes you emotional? What are your concerns?
  • Which Wildcat (adult) would you like to talk to if you had a serious question or needed help?

Quarter 1 Student Celebrations @ TEWMS

This year we will be celebrating our Wildcats quarterly a bit different. Our 1st Quarter celebration will be on Thursday October 15th at 9:30am. Each team will be able to nominate students who consistently demonstrate the characteristics of the Wildcat ROAR! We will provide families with a zoom link so that they can participate in this celebration of their students virtually, as we are not having visitors on campus.
