New 5th Grade Teacher - Mrs. Mastrocola
We are welcoming Mrs. Jamie Mastrocola to the Magee Staff. Mrs. Mastrocola lives in Hartland with her two children and dog. She brings with her 6 years of experience teaching 3-4th grade and recently received a Master's Degree with a Reading Teacher License and an emphasis in Personalized Learning. Mrs. Mastrocola and Mr. Suhr have been working together for the last few weeks and are ready to welcome new 5th graders! Welcome, Mrs. Mastrocola!
NEW Birthday Treat Policy and Snack Policy
Due to a change in federal legislation and the KMSD KMORR (Kettle Moraine Operating Rules and Regulations), along with the continuous effort to keep our students safe and healthy our student handbook policy does not allow for students to bring in any food items for birthday treats. Any food treats sent/brought in will sent home with the student who brought it. Student birthdays will be announced at our Mindful Monday gatherings.
If families wish to send in a treat to celebrate/recognize a student birthday a non-food item must be sent, for example: a book for the classroom with the student’s name, pencils, erasers, bookmarks, other trinkets (ex: Oriental Trading). There will be a few opportunities for classroom parties where food snacks may be organized by the classroom teacher and/or parent volunteers.
The snack policy has not changed - healthy student snacks need to be nut-free on a daily basis. THIS LINK will give some snack suggestions.
THANK YOU for your support of these policies.
Girls on the Run
Last year we had a Girls on the Run Program that included 21 girls - it was a fantastic experience for all of the girls. We hope to have a team again this year. The curriculum rotates on a three year basis, so girls can participate more than one year and continue to develop confidence, self-esteem and positive attitudes toward whatever challenge they face. The vehicle for this is to build the physical and mental strength to complete a 5K at the end of the program.
Last year's team did a service project and sent a care package to US Army soldiers based in Italy. Michael Roberts, the recipient of the package for his unit, came to personally thank the girls when he returned to the states in June! A group of girls and parents staffed the first run station on last year's Milwaukee Running Festival Marathon/Half-Marathon (now called the Milwaukee Marathon) - receiving many compliments on their hard work and smiling faces! One family even came out to support me running the Lakefront Marathon last year - I needed that mile 20 boost!!
Clearly, Girls on the Run is far more than running - which means your daughter does not have to be a runner to participate. Running is the vehicle to develop Habits of Mind, generosity and giving back to the community, and to continue to build the self-confidence and self-esteem of the girls.
Registration opened on August 1. Please note, the fee is listed as $175, but is on a sliding scale depending on income (the scale is available during registration). Registration includes all materials, 5K registration fee, a t-shirt and a water bottle. Magee will have practices after school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 PM.
We will need 8 girls to have a team - currently we have 6! We also need 1 more coach. Ms. Stathas is the lead coach for Magee. If you would like to coach, or know someone who would like to coach, please contact Sue Sterner at sterners@kmsd.edu or Ms. Stathas at stathask@kmsd.edu as soon as possible. Coaches get free training from GOTR and it begins really soon...like this weekend (there are other dates too!)
Thank you so much for considering this opportunity!
