Presidential Scholar SemiFinalist:
Kaylee Kirkeby has been named one of 628 semifinalists in the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Scholars are selected on the basis of their accomplishments in many areas-academic and artistic success, accomplishments in career and technical fields, leadership, strong character and involvement in school and the community. Finalists will be announced in May.

Medication Pick Up
If your student has medications at school, they need to be picked up by June 1st, 2022.
A parent or guardian will need to stop in the school office to pick up these medications. If medications remain at the school after June 1st, they will be disposed of by the school nurse.

Lockers
Each student is issued a lock at the beginning of the year. If this lock is not left on the locker at the end of the year, the student will be charged $5.00 for it's replacement. ALL ITEMS MUST BE REMOVED FROM LOCKERS BY 2:00 PM ON THURSDAY, JUNE 1ST. Our custodians will begin emptying lockers at 2:00 p.m., items left in lockers will be disposed of immediately. The school is not responsible for items left in lockers!

2023 Prom News!
The 2023 Junior/Senior Prom will be held Saturday, May 6th.
GRAND MARCH
Grand March will be held in the auditorium in two sessions. There will be a 6:30 PM and 7:15 PM session.
Spectator tickets are purchased in advance $3 each and will be sold during 1st and 2nd lunch during the week before Prom.
Grand March will be live-streamed on the GFC Activities YouTube Channel.

There will be an event link specifically just for Grand March posted on the GFC Activities YouTube site prior to Grand March.
PROM
Prom will take place at Cloud 9 in downtown Grand Forks from 7:30 PM - 11:00 PM. Tickets for Prom are $25 each from April 24th - 28th and will raise in price to $30 from May 1st - 5th. Tickets will be sold during 1st and 2nd lunch during the week before Prom. The tickets will be emailed to the buyer of the tickets and will need to be saved to scan the tickets for entry to the dance.

The following are Prom expectations:
Behavior
All school events are alcohol and drug free. Students will be required to take a breathalyzer test at the door.
Appropriate Dancing
Students are required to dance appropriately....period!!!
Formal Dress is Required
Formal prom attire may be classified as a tuxedo or dress suit, including a tie, bow tie, and a shirt, which may include a vest or cummerbund. Dress slacks, dress shirt, and tie are also appropriate attire. Shirts are to be worn at all times.
Traditionally formal dresses may be strapless or may feature spaghetti straps. Bare or open backs are acceptable; however excessively bare stomachs or bare midriffs are not permitted. Under garments should not be visible. See-through apparel and gowns or dresses with slits that are above the mid-thigh area are not permitted. Garments that are extremely tight or extremely low-cut are also unacceptable. Dresses with glitter on them will not be permitted.
Prom is a school event and the same rules listed in the Student Handbook will apply.

Gearing Up For Post Prom 2023
Grand Forks Centrals Post Prom Event will be held on Saturday May 6 th at Northern Air Family Fun Center. The event will run from 11:30 pm-2:30am. Doors close at 12:30am. Post Prom is a drug and alcohol-free event with a zero-tolerance policy set by the GF Public Schools. All Juniors and Seniors, whether they attend prom or not are invited to the Post Prom Event. Sophomores and freshmen who are the guest of upperclassmen at prom
ARE welcome to attend the Post Prom Event. The cost of the event is $15 per student if pre-registered and $20 if registering at the door. We highly recommend the students pre-register in order to keep things running smoothly the day of the event. *We do have a limited scholarship amount that can be used for those in need to attend this event. Please contact either Jennifer or Cari for the scholarship. A one-time Northern Air waiver MUST be signed by a parent/guardian in order to attend if the student is under the age of 18. Make sure if your child’s date is a freshman or sophomore or from a different school they NEED to complete the waiver/registration as well. The waiver and sign-up form can be located at this link

This season's Red River vs. GF Central softball game will be our first Strike Out Cancer fundraiser! The proceeds for the event will be donated to Altru's Filling the Gap program which assists families of cancer patients in our community.
The original date for the game was April 18th, but it is now set for May 20th.
However, we have started our t-shirt sales as the first part of our fundraising efforts. Shirts are purchased ONLINE at the link below. Shirts will be $14.

Online enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is once again available for Grand Forks Public School students. This process replaces the paper forms sent home at the beginning of each school year. You will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the Registration 2023-2024 link. If you have not already completed the online registration process, please follow the directions through the link below to complete the online enrollment.

2023 Graduation Information & Deadlines
The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 is scheduled for Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. *Please note the location change!
Prior to graduation, there are a number of items that need to be completed. The following is a checklist of all obligations that must be met by each student before a diploma will be presented.
May 1st
- Senior pictures are due for the yearbook. They can be turned in any time before that date to Mr. Berglund or they can be emailed to: centralyearbook@mygfschools.org
- Caps & gowns will be distributed in the main office beginning on this date. Students who have a hold on their cap & gown must satisfy all holds before it will be released. A hold may be placed on any student who owes: detention, classroom or library materials, misc. fees, technology items, device damage fees, fines, athletic uniforms, or if there is an academic concern.
- Deadline for all bills, fees and fines to be paid (such as lunch accounts, media center, athletic equipment, lab equipment, book damages)
- All independent study, online and correspondence course work must be completed.
- Deadline for completion of the "Senior Survey" and the "Choice Ready Survey". The surveys will be sent to student email accounts in early May. Early graduates will be notified about the procedure to use in completing the surveys.
- Deadline to opt out of participating in the graduation ceremony. Students who do not want to walk in the ceremony must notify Kristin Wilcox in the main office by this date. Students who opt out may pick up their diplomas and/or caps & gowns in the main office beginning on Monday, June 5th.
May 30th
- The final day of classes for seniors is May 30th.
- All course work, tests, and detention time must be completed.
- Mandatory graduation practice is scheduled for Friday, June 2nd at 8:00 AM at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. All graduating seniors who wish to participate in the graduation ceremony must attend the practice session.
- If you have a school sponsored event that conflicts with graduation practice, you must inform Mr. Strandell prior to June 2nd that you will miss practice.
- The graduation ceremony begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Students must report to the holding area no later than 3:15 p.m. All students who participate in the ceremony are expected to dress in an appropriate manner. The cap, gown, tassel, and shoes are all required. No other personal additions will be allowed other than school-issued stoles of honor without prior permission from administration.
Only students who have completed their graduation requirements will participate in the graduation ceremony. The list of students who will be participating in the ceremony will be finalized on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
Senior Yearbook Photo Information - Deadline is May 1st
Senior photos for the 2022-2023 GFC Yearbook can be submitted to: centralyearbook@mygfschools.org.
- Submitted digital images should be 300 DPI.
- Baby/Childhood photos can also be submitted. If you need a photo to be scanned, you can put it in Mr. Berglund’s mailbox and it will be returned after it is scanned (make sure your name is on it and it’s in an envelope).
- Students should submit a vertical or square photo (not horizontal). Note: Full body shots may be cropped.
- Only single-subject photos are allowed.
- Accessories (i.e. hats, scarves, jewelry) and props (i.e. sports equipment) are permitted in the submitted photos as long as they do not promote or condone illegal activity. Senior portraits of questionable content will be shown to school administration for final approval.
- Portraits of students with weapons will not be published.
