Why this activity was chosen to be created.
I chose this particular activity as I thought it'd be a fun and useful little game/ activity for children aged between 3 to 5 years of age. It's a simple, DIY activity that can be made with ease for your own children, so they can develop on their cognitive and linguistic skills. I found this activity more suitable for toddlers as my other ideas were more suited for babies.
Why this activity is appropriate for this age group.
Many educators, parents and teachers use flash cards to teach children how to write and read. Flash cards are an inexpensive teaching tool that can be assembled quickly. The only equipment you need is paper and a marker. You can use upper and lower case letters, words, synonyms, short sentences to fit with the word and etc.
Flash cards can be used to teach children sight words, synonyms, antonyms, homophones, sentence building, vocabulary and spelling words.
This activity is appropriate for children in this age group as it helps them learn words, sentences and etc; which helps them prepare for pre school or kindergarten.
How this activity contributes to the cognitive development of the child.
This particular activity contributes to the cognitive development of the child as they learn to read and write which develops their cognitive skills. Flash cards are an effective tool that helps the child's brain discover and learn the use of reading and writing.
