The WJHS Panther Update
October 27, 2023
Principal's Letter
Panther Families,
While Halloween is widely celebrated in the United States, Canada, and the UK, it has variations and similarities in other countries. For example, Mexico celebrates Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) around the same time to honor deceased loved ones.
Halloween is a fun and festive holiday that allows people to indulge in creativity, superstition, and a little bit of spooky fun. It's a time when communities come together to celebrate and enjoy the spirit of the season. I would like to wish you all a fun and festive Halloween weekend.
Conferences: Thank you to all of the parents that attended conferences this week. Your involvement in your student's education is vital to their success!
WJHS Spirit Week: Monday - Booo Day (Twin Day)
Tuesday - Costume Day (Halloween)
Wednesday - Barbie Pink Day
Thursday - Dress as a student/teacher
Friday - P.J. Friday (Pajama Day)
Halloween Costume Contest - All students are invited to participate in our annual Costume Contest on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am in the gym. Costumes must be fully assembled at home prior to arriving to school (including makeup, fake blood, etc). NO WEAPONS are permitted. Prizes will be awarded to the best costume at each grade level. We cannot wait to see everyone in their spooky, funny, scary, creative, and outrageous attire!
BPAC will be meeting at Manning School in the Conference Room (Door 5, Main Floor) on Nov 7th @ 6PM. See the flyer below for additional information.
WHS Fall Play: This years play is called The NitWits, and it's a great little comedy. It runs November 3 & 4 at 7pm. It is appropriate for all ages so be sure to bring the kids. Tickets are $10 for Adults and $5 for Students. FREE for Seniors. Concessions will be available for purchase as well. Tickets can be found at our.show/westmontnitwits
A little about the play...Tommy Winter, desperate for money, pretends to be a psychologist for people who are afraid of losing their minds and goes behind his parents to host clients in their home. What could go wrong?
SSLC Opportunities: Looking for SSLC hours? Check out the Darien Park District.
Three Pillars Donations: Students who display the three pillars of expectations (Safety, Respect, and Responsibility) earn tickets that are entered into our weekly raffle drawings . If you are able to partner with us in this positive behavior initiative and donate a prize, it would be greatly appreciated. Items that have been donated already are snacks, $5 giftcards, teenage items from the Dollar Store (notebooks, gel pens, Etch A Sketch, Rubics Cubes) and monetary donations for us to purchase items. Huge THANK YOU to those of you that have already brought in donations!!
Remember to check the WJHS calendar for up-to-date information on Clubs, Events, & Athletics.
Sincerely,
