BioMolecules: Carbs
Sugars, Starches, and Cellulose by Surya R. and Riya M.
Mononomer: CH2O-Monosaccharide
It is made from Carbon Dioxide and Water together with the chemical reaction of photosynthesis to create carbohydrates. Examples of Monosaccharides are: Glucose, Galactose, and Fructose.
Polymer: Polysaccharide
It is made from monomers joined together. Examples of Polysaccharides are: Maltose, Sucrose, and Lactose.
Examples of Carbohydrates
-Sorbitol
-Ribose
-Glycogen
-Cellulose
Functional Group(s): Carbonyl
Carbonyl (OH) is present in almost every Carbohydrate.
Functions of Carbohydrates
Common functions for this biomolecule are to energize living things and to structure materials.
Structure vs. Function
it's function is to energize other living beings, so the structure has a special place where energy is stored. It is stored between the bonds of phosphate molucules
