Principal's Message
Ah, routines. Having spent the entirety of the 21st century working in schools, I've come to realize that students of all ages yearn for and thrive when there are routines in place, especially when there are struggles in their lives. At school, a lot of routine is built into the day. Things happen at the same time every day. There are bells that dictate when one period ends and the next begins. Students see the same people in the hallway at the same time each day, and their teachers provide structure and routines in the classroom. In a time of life when everything else seems to be changing without warning - whether it's your body, your social circle, your interests, or your relationships at home - having routines in middle school is very helpful.
I encourage you to try and set a routine for your children, and a space where these routines can be carried out.
- Is there a designated time and place for homework and studying?
- Is there a routine for bedtime (including a time for powering down devices and spending time off screen)?
I know it's hard, and I know that there are those of you out there who are MUCH better at this than I am. But for those of us who have our torches raised in a valiant effort to establish and maintain routines, I say let's keep at it!
After all, progress over perfection. Every single day.

More Fifth Grade Locker Move In
This Week at POBMS.......
- Fifth Grade Locker Move In: On Tuesday, October 5th, our fifth grade students were invited to school to move into their lockers. After having spent some time getting used to using locks and combinations (thank you fifth grade teachers), our students had a chance to make their locker feel like home!
- Student Council Campaigns: Our middle school students are truly learning about the election process through this year's StuCo (That's short for STUdent COuncil) elections. Candidates have created catchy, colorful, and informative campaign posters that can be found all around the building, and they are working on their FlipGrid campaign speeches, which will be shared in MAP next week!
- Harmony: All grades are learning about diversity and inclusion through our district Harmony SEL program, both in their academic classes and in MAP.

MAP Happenings
Our MAP students are having a great time getting to know each other! Last week, they participated in "would you rather..." discussions. Here is a link to a list of questions that you can use at home. https://parade.com/964027/parade/would-you-rather-questions/ My children and I had a blast at the dinner table posing these questions to each other! Now that October has begun, we are shifting our theme to Diversity and Inclusion. This week, our MAP groups are writing short and encouraging postcards to each other. Sometimes, all it takes to uplift someone is a few kind words.
