Great Things Happening at JBD!
As we charge forth into our first 5 day week in awhile, I find it so hard to believe that we are truly at the midpoint of the year. Progress is being noticed by leaps and bounds in all areas. I continue to be inspired by the innovative teaching, utilization of technology, differentiated and personalized learning activities and flexible seating options throughout the school
I need to share a special shout-out to Julie Paine and Nick Tempest, who were volun-told to invite Stacy, Kristi, Kathy Kennedy, and myself from KLK Consulting into their classrooms for an observation. This coaching session is mainly to help the JBD administration take the what's good at JBD and make it even better! The model of feedback is different and informative. It was a very positive experience and it is a sign of a true professional that can take feedback and jump into next steps with enthusiasm. Stacy and I have already scheduled many observations, and will be 'practicing' this feedback method with many of you! Kathy Kennedy comes back on Feb. 23rd, and we will be doing one of the quick feedback observations as well as working with a group of teachers for a teaching study. The opportunity to observe and help assist with feedback with your colleagues is quite powerful.
Speaking of powerful, we hosted the Virginia Beach Educational Foundation board meeting here Thursday. Thanks to the efforts of our National Elementary Honor Society, or "Dey Scholars", sponsored by Suzanne Buhner, breakfast was provided and tours were given of JBD. After receiving 7 foundation grants this past year, gratitude was expressed to this board for helping JBD provide authentic learning experiences due to their generosity! Sincere appreciation goes to Tammy McGuire and Edgar Jumper for inviting 20 plus folks into their classrooms to see innovative learning live and in action!
All were so impressed.
We are SO Excited about the kick-off to Reading Month! Remember, Monday is Happy Camper Day---it's ONLY a SPIRIT DAY if YOU actually participate in the dressing up part of the day...so, don your camping gear, and carry around your favorite book to begin inspiring reading across the school. Great appreciation goes to Lynne Logan, Lisa Schliske, Susan Hardesty and the craft work of Kathy Morris for getting this event going.
The "Best Dressed Camper" on staff gets a free cat. :)
See me for details.
Cheers,
Beth
