Car Drop Off/Pick Up
Thank you to everyone for adjusting to the new crosswalk for the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. A couple of reminders to help everyone be as safe as possible and to keep traffic flowing.
MORNING - drop off between 8:25 and 8:45 if possible
* If you are dropping off in the morning and are walking your child to the sidewalk or to the front door, park in the lot and use the crosswalk.
* If you are dropping off in the morning and using the car lane, we encourage you to drop off anywhere along the sidewalk instead of waiting until you are the front car before the crosswalk.
AFTERNOON - staggered exits for students between 3:25 and 3:30
* If you are picking up in the afternoon and parking in the lot, please use the crosswalk to get your child and return to your car. Those parents picking students up from the back school exits by the playground are the exception to this.
* If you are picking up in the afternoon and loading from the car lane, we will try to get your children to you anywhere along the sidewalk on the building side.
* The afternoon is certainly more traffic all at one time. Fridays are especially crowded. Patience will help us to get people across the crosswalk safely and also keep cars moving as much as possible. The entire afternoon process is typically completed within about 10 minutes.
* Remember: we need to have the office contacted for parents to pick children up after school (unless you are a daily pick up). If the office has not been contacted, students will be loaded on a bus to go home.

Kindergarten News
Kindergarten is off to a great start! Mrs. Coger's class has learned so much already! We have fallen into a great routine at school. The children are doing great job learning procedures and rules, meeting new friends, and learning how to be an Eastwood Eagle. I am so proud of them!

Buddy Bench Donation
Buddy Bench donated in memory of Mike Van Alstine, Eastwood Class of 1998
To honor the memory of classmate Mike Van Alstine, Eastwood Class of 1998 donated a Buddy Bench, to be installed on the Eastwood Elementary playground. A Buddy Bench is a special place in a school playground where a child can go if they feel lonely and want someone to talk to or play with, and other children will see and include the child. The bench includes a plaque dedication to Mike, and the saying “Be the reason someone smiles today.” Classmates living in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Texas gathered the week of the Pemberville Fair, to assemble the bench and remember their friend Mike.
Mike passed away at the age of 40 while in Costa Rica. He worked for MD Anderson in Houston, Texas where he and his team pioneered new research and technologies for cancer patients. Most recently, Mike started business ventures with friends to continue research in his field.
Mike lived life to the fullest, helping anyone and everyone. He was known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and kind and compassionate spirit. He made everyone feel included and respected and was a friend to all. Mike’s kindness will live on at Eastwood Elementary through the Buddy Bench.
