J. William Leary Junior High School

Update and Information

Thank you for the quick pivot this week on remote instruction for Friday. We all look forward to moving back to hybrid instruction starting 3/1.

Important upcoming dates include:

  • March 1 + March 2 Remote Child 8th Grade ELA packet pick up
  • March 5 marks 25 weeks-close of the 3rd quarter 5 week reports
  • March 29-30 Remote child material pick up

Drop off and pick up needs to happen in the parent loop off of Highland Park. A few cars are parking on School Street creating a tough and potentially dangerous situation for our bus drivers and your child(ren).

There have been several requests for information regarding the technology we use here at JW Leary. I am in the process of getting videos. The one below is a general video on the homework hotline.

All students attending in person must complete the health screening app.

Just a reminder that each student needs to have a “Daily screening form” filled out BEFORE coming into the school.

We have three options:

  • Download + fill out the app-->,
  • This is also a link to an online version of the app http://bit.ly/JWLScreen,
  • Children can get the pink forms from the nurse to bring in each day.

If there are any questions regarding this procedure please call the office 315-764-3720 or the nurse (Nurse Gilman) at 315-764-3720 ext. 3203.

Lunch Pick Up

Did you know that on Mondays you can pick up 7-day meal packs for all students you have enrolled at the Massena Central School Districts? You can pick the packs up at any school in the Massena Central School District, including here at JW Leary on Mondays after 11!

The packs are at no cost to you and you do not need to call ahead. Pull into the parent loop and let us know how many students you have!

Mrs. Smith, our school librarian,

has been working with our teachers to integrate various technology skills. This week students learned about keyboard short cuts; including using control + F to quickly find specific words on a web-page/in a document.
2nd quarter High Honor Roll(92-100) + Honor Roll(85-92)

Congratulations to children earning this distinction. These are unique times and we know it is not easy. Keep up the great work!

Mrs. Hayes works with students

on adopting healthy habits to kick off the new quarter and post-vacation blues.

Students in Mrs. McGowan's class

work on summarizing the Pearl and learning vocabulary.

The attendance contest continues:

where we spin a wheel containing the names of children who have been present for classes so far that day. Children must be present online or in-person to draw a prize (note-online children can select someone in-person who draws their prize and we send the prize home).

The student to the right has just selected her prize!

Thank you for checking out our weekly update. If you have ideas, questions, or concerns please email azullo@mcs.k12.ny.us.

When we return from mid-winter break each weekly update will have a technology tip for parents that provides information about platforms we are using at school.

Please follow us on Facebook and our website for up to date information.

Take care,
