A Message from the Office of the Superintendent
We have done it! We are at the end of the 2021-2022 School Year...and it has been one to remember. Obviously, this school year has had its challenges, but it is important to remember that this school year has had many things for us to celebrate as well. I have seen students meet some tremendous academic goals this year. I have seen students put together some incredible projects that have impacted many people in our community and beyond. I have seen students experience wonderful accomplishments in various extracurricular activities as part of a team and as individuals. I share this just as a reminder that even though we have faced challenges this school year, our students AND staff have accomplished a lot. Sometimes if we aren't careful, we will focus too much on the challenges and not enough on the accomplishments. The truth of it all is that sometimes it is the challenge that makes the accomplishment much more valuable. I continue to be very proud to be part of this community and this school district. I am proud of our students and staff alike. Even as we enter into summertime, the school district has a lot going on. We have K-12 summer school, construction at our new Marshfield Early Learning Center, maintenance projects throughout the district, and many activities/events all happening throughout the summer. Let's finish this school year strong and continue to be proud members of BlueJay Nation!

Marshfield Early Learning Center Update
Despite recent wet weather, the Marshfield Early Learning Center continues to progress quickly. The exterior finishes of masonry and metal paneling are going up on the classroom wing. Patrons can now see the covered walkway on the south side of Hubble connecting the two buildings. Interior framing on the administrative area has been finished. The district expects completion of the classroom wing by mid-August, which will allow preschool classes to begin on time.
This project will allow the district to remove two modular trailers off the Hubble campus, move four classrooms out of Hubble Elementary and expand our preschool offerings. The hiring of additional certified and classified team members is underway.
Visit the Marshfield ECLC Project page on the district webpage to learn more. You’ll find videos, monthly progress reports, and a timeline of the expected progress through our planned opening in August of 2022.

A Spy Among Us
Agent Moonraker, a REAL, LIVE WWII spy stopped by to give students in Mrs. Weatherly’s 5th grade a first hand account of her adventures and to share some of her spy skills. After figuring out their spy name and getting their official badges, students became secret agents and assembled a nonfiction text from hidden compartments in a deck of cards. Let’s face it, textbooks and photographs of historical items can be boring, but Agent Moonraker took this history block from total blah to an epic experience for all!

STEM Takes Flight
Students in Mrs. Curley’s JH PLTW class were given the performance task to design and build a balsa-wood glider that will outlast their classmates! In the Whitebox Learning environment, students worked within a set of constraints to create their virtual glider. Through this platform, students employed their knowledge of the 4 forces of flight (lift, weight, thrust and drag) and Newton's Laws of Motion when they designed the fuselage (main body), the wings (with varying angles and shapes), and stabilizers (tail) of the glider. Students were able to virtually race each other in the web-based platform, make changes to their design, and truly experience the engineering process. When students were satisfied with their final design, they downloaded a blueprint of their glider and flawlessly cut out those exact pieces on the Glowforge (laser cutter) from the balsa wood. After some assembly and decorating, students were then allowed to test the flight path of their actual balsa-wood glider.
The online experience provided a way for the students to race their gliders in a controlled environment. However, students had to race their physical gliders in the harsh realities of our world which included a lot of wind and dampness. Some gliders flew beautifully; others broke before they even left the launch site. There were tears of joy and sadness! In all, students engaged in each step of the engineering process and most were able to test their final products.

Bluejays at Carnegie Hall
The Bluejay Band had a once in a lifetime performance in New York City at Carnegie Hall. The memories of this wonderful opportunity will undoubtedly last a lifetime!

The 13th annual Shook Night of the Arts was a huge success. The evening began with the Bluejay Singers performing in the cafeteria with Dr. Michael Dove conducting. Immediately following their performance the Art Auction took place in the gymnasium with Hoover Case as our auctioneer. Over two hundred 5th grade students’ masterpieces were on display with 58 acrylic paintings to be auctioned. In true Bluejay fashion the Marshfield community filled the gymnasium with support for these students. With your generous donations, the Art Auction raised its largest total ever at $9,885. The money raised at the event goes directly into the Art Department at Shook Elementary and provides funding for this project to continue along with other art enriched opportunities for our 4th and 5th grade students. I’m incredibly proud of all our students and very thankful to the community of Marshfield for rising up to support them year after year!
