Weekly Update
February 8th - February 12th
Happy Black History Month BMS Family,
This week has been an awesome week. During my participation in Professional Learning Communities/Teams, I learned about some of the really neat Black History Month activities and lessons that teachers have planned for our students.
One other highlight of my week has been moving closer to welcoming a small cohort of 6th graders who will be invited to participate in Limited In-person Instruction (LIPI). At the moment, our district is beginning to roll out plans to start inviting students back into our buildings. Beaumont is currently in the second phase of the roll-out plan; which means we will have the opportunity to welcome the small cohort back into the building, starting the week of: February 22, 2021.
MAP Assessment Parent/Family Information
We are continuing with our next wave of MAP testing for students, next week. MAP testing during distance learning is new to all of us; thus, we expect that issues or technology glitches may present themselves. If issues happen to arise, our teachers will work to problem-solve those issues with our students. Moreover, we also recognize, that while MAP testing provides students, teachers and families with insightful information and an idea of students' strengths and areas of growth, testing under the current conditions may not be ideal. If there is anything you feel we can do to support your student better during MAP testing, please do not hesitate to reach out to your student's teacher.
Math Team Dreambox Update/Kudos
Congratulations Beaumont. So far this school year in DreamBox you have:
- completed 17,472 lessons
- have an average growth of 34% per student (this means many of you have grown 1/3 of a year more than expected in a school year)
- have completed an average of 5 standards per student
Keep up the amazing progress!
Successful Schools Survey
It is time to make your voice heard once again. The portal for the Successful Schools Survey opens for families on Monday, February 8th. This survey is very important because:
Only time we hear from students, staff, and families system-wide
Gathering these data will help us understand experiences at our schools
School climate is a key component influencing outcomes for students
We will be able to see improvements from last year to understand how our work in schools has changed perceptions
We will use results to identify areas for improvements
Starting Monday, February 8, go to the following link to complete the survey: surveys.panoramaed.com/portlandor/ppsfamily
The survey is available in Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, and Chinese. If you cannot complete an online survey we are able to provide you with a paper copy. Call Beaumont Middle School at 503-916-5610, or email the School Climate Specialist at ericjohansson@pps.net.
Asynchronous School Work Reminders
Teachers are noticing that some of our students are losing momentum with completion of asynchronous assignments. Please remind your student that although live sessions occur during the morning portion of the day, asynchronous assignments should be completed in the afternoon. Please encourage your student to complete and turn in their school work via the Canvas portal.
Looking Ahead
In observance of President's Day, PPS schools and district offices will be closed. Please see BMS's Special Schedule for the week of February 15th - February 19th.
