Character Strong - Family Dares
Each week, we will send a Family Dare via Barry news that we hope you will choose to participate in. Feel free to give us an update on how it is going (email, short video, phone call, etc.). We want to highlight the great things that come from this program and hope to partner in this effort between both the home and school fronts.
Please click on each picture below to learn about the Family Character Dare process.

FERPA Virtual Learning Notice
As part of the 2020-2021 school year, your student will participate in virtual or distance learning. This virtual learning may occur via a digital platform like Canvas, Google Classroom, or Google Meets that will require participation by your student in a virtual setting with other students receiving the same services.
Due to the nature of virtual learning, it is possible the parent/guardian, sibling, or other related person of another student in your student’s class may hear or see your student as they are engaged in learning.
The Department of Education’s Student Privacy Policy Office (“SPPO”) stated in its March 30, 2020 virtual learning guidance “a person merely seeing or hearing your student does not violate their or your rights under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”). Another person sitting in the same room as your student is treated no differently than a visitor would be during an in-person class.” It is not possible or feasible for the District to dictate the location of other individuals present during virtual sessions within a student’s home.
Our staff members will take precautions to comply with District Policy and FERPA to prohibit and limit the disclosure of personally identifiable information. Additionally, please note District Policy KKB expressly prohibits recording any virtual classroom session. This long-standing policy exists to protect the rights of all students under FERPA.
I have been advised that my student may be seen or heard by other individuals present during virtual learning sessions. I have also been advised of the District’s prohibition on the recording of the virtual sessions and agree to comply with Policy KKB.
If you desire that your child not receive virtual education services, please contact your student’s building principal.

5th Grade Back to School Event
This past Monday you should have received an email from your homeroom teacher introducing themselves and informing you of what team you are on for this school year (Orange: Petty/Shoup or Black: Stallo/Thompson). In addition, there was a sign up genius link to select what time you would be coming between 2:30-6 pm on Wednesday, September 2nd.
We have decided to change this event to look more like our 6th-8th grade back to school events, so that families can see more of the building. Please watch this video to see what the evening will look like. In addition, the following checklist and map will be provided at check-in.
If you have signed up, please try to show up at that time. If you haven't, please know that you are still welcome to show up anytime on Wednesday, September 2nd between 2:30-6 pm.

Middle School Sports Update
Home Middle School Football & Volleyball: Two spectators will be allowed per participant. There will be a roster with two spots to check off for each contestant at the gate. These two fans can sit together but need to be socially distanced from other fans.
Home Middle School Cross Country: At this time spectators will not be allowed at our home meet on Sept 14 at Platte Ridge Park due to the number of schools and athletes participating. If this determination gets changed, coaches will update parents before the meet.
Away MS Football, Volleyball & Cross Country: Spectator capacities and other logistics for away events may vary based on host school requirements, and coaches and sponsors will communicate details with teams and families.
