The Power Ranger Press

I am so excited that you have chosen ISOK this year! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to join you on this journey! My personal goal is to help you to grow into best version of yourself!

I hope you've had the chance to go through our live Orientation sessions for school, for your courses, and have had the opportunity to attend some of the ISOK Support Team's Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions. If that doesn't sound familiar, don't worry! I'll explain SEL in more detail. We are here to help you to be successful at ISOK and in life!

Each week you'll find news, information, action items, and fun from the ISOK Student Support Team! Please read carefully and enjoy this issue of The Power Ranger Press!

Thanks,

What is Social Emotional Learning (SEL)?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which people learn to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. The ISOK Student Support Team provides many sessions to address these needs, including but not limited to the Phoenix Rising Assemblies; Advisory class; 6th, 8th, 9th, and 12th Grade Transition classes; LLIT and support groups; 1:1 Support; College and Career Exploration Classes; Internship and Work-Based Learning; and Block Parties!

Required Assessments in Star360

All students in 9th-12th grades will take Star360 assessments this year for math and reading. These will be taken in August, December, and May. Additionally, all students will be taking a USA Test Prep assessment in October and March to ensure students are meeting their grade level standards and to simulate state testing. These assessments are required and help our teachers target instruction to meet students’ needs and ensure growth. It is important that students complete these assessments on their own, without assistance from learning coaches or other sources.

Your teachers will also send out information to complete Star360 assessments, but students may begin now to complete them. They must be completed by Friday August 14th.
